Simple, but informative
My boyfriend and I stayed at Rosa's Hotel in Cayo (San Ignacio) for 4 nights at a cost of 55BZ (double) per night. The room was sufficient for our purposes (backpacking to the surrounding Mayan ruins), but no TV or air conditioning, those cost extra. The manager Tony is from Colorado and his wife is Belizean, both are extremely nice and informative about Cayo and what there is to do and how to do it. Breakfast is free and consists of coffee, toast, and some fruit (banana and papaya). They will do your laundry for 5BZ wash and 5BZ dry.
We loved that the hotel is right off of Burns Avenue. If you are a light sleeper or cannot get to sleep due to noise, bring some ear plugs, this hotel is right next to the only dance club. Everything in Cayo is within walking distance and a great, cheap Chinese restaurant is below the hotel with ice-cold Belikin for only 2BZ. Tony and Noelli will also cook for you at a price, but I think it is more fun to try all of the other local cheap restaurants.
Tony also took us to Barton Creek Outpost for the weekend and it was amazing! So if he offers to take you, go. Overall, Rosa's Hotel was clean, sufficient, and the owners are accommodating. I do recommend this place to other simple backpackers like ourselves who are on a budget and do not mind constant humidity and can survive with a fan. The only reason I gave the Value a 4 is because we stayed at the Venus Hotel around the corner the first night we were in Cayo and it was bigger with a TV for the same price.
