An excellent hotel at a fantastic price.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/11
My wife and I stayed at Hojarascas on our way out of Costa Rica and we have a hundred things to compliment and not a single one to complain about. The owner, Jose, is extremely friendly and personable and yet he didn't talk our ears off or intrude on our time or privacy in any way. He gave excellent recommendations for lunch and dinner restaurants and arranged our reservations and taxis for us. He has functional English and when speaking Spanish with us he was very good at speaking slowly and clearly to ensure we understood exactly what he was saying. Breakfast at the hotel was very excellent - Jose served homemade tomales in addition to toast, fruit, cereal, coffee, etc.. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable and the bathrooms are extremely nice. There is free laundry and internet available, and Jose was very helpful and enthusiastic about providing suggestions for and helping to arrange our activities in and around San Jose, as well as transportation to the airport. The hotel itself is very clean, well run, brightly lit, and comfortable. It sits right in the middle of downtown Heredia which is a pretty active shopping, dining, business, and nightlife center - mostly for locals it looked like. The price was only $72 for the two of us to stay one night, and the hotel covered the taxi to the airport. We felt it was a truly quality place to stay with amazing service and an unbeatable price. Honestly can't think of a thing to complain about.

Feels like staying with a family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/12/09
I stayed at Hotel Hojarascas two years ago and my daughter and family stayed there last year. This is easily the best in Heredia and is an excellent value. Jose Omar is delightful and will go out of his way to assist you in any way necessary. The breakfast is excellent and the rooms are very clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the vicinity of Heredia.

Home away from home.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/08
We had toured most of Costa Rica for 18 days and we needed a place to stay in San Jose for 2 days prior to our departure. The Hotel Hojarascas was recommended to us by an acquaintance prior to our tour and so we reserved a room for my family and I. This hotel is in downtown Heredia and conveniently located 50 meters from a Catholic church, across the street from a super market and 100 meters from a mercado. From the outside the hotel appears small but once inside your amzazed how deep it realy is. It is very clean and well decorated. Jose, the manager, is extemely friendly and very helpful. He took greart pleasure in making sure we had all we needed and he is a pleasure to speak with. We were provided a room with a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, a full bathroom, a living room with a television. We had the option of preparing our own breakfast or eating the one prepared by Jose. This included fresh fruits, cereals, yogurts, cheeses, fresh breads, excellent coffe, teas, fruit juices, jams and the run of the kitchen and dining area. The internet access is free and so is transportation to the airport 15 minutes away. I highly reccomend this hotel.

Thank You Jose!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/08
Not knowing what to expect when we arrived,we were met at the arirport by Jose and immediately put at ease by this gentle man and his family. The hotel itself was spotless and secure. We were traveling as a group and had two rooms which included the apartment. This hotel actually became our "base" in Costa Rica as we returned twice during our travel for overnight stays. Jose arranged all of our ground transport and told us what to expect to pay for these services. Both Juan Santamaria and Tobias Bolanos airports are both minutes away by taxi. The town of Heredia itself is bustling with services of all kinds and wonderfull people. A large grocery is directly across the street and 1/2 block away is a church. I can't say enough about Jose. The man is dedicated to his business and goes out of his way to meet your needs. On our last day we left at 4a.m. and Jose was there to send us off. Thank you Jose!!!

Like Family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/29/08
Hotel Hojarascas has the best service that we have experienced in Costa Rica. Jose Omar makes it his mission to be of service and does an excellent job. He serves a wonderful nutritious breakfast with local fruits and breads from the the local market and he is always available to answer questions about the culture, the tours and readily gives recommendations to affordable restaurants in Heredia. We plan to make regular visits to Heredia and Jose Omar and Hotel Hojarascas as we feel he is like family!

Home Away From Home
By MelonyG, 3/9/08
If you are in Heredia, stay here, not just for the exceptional value and prime location, but for the unbelievable service. Jose and his staff/family will take care of you with grace and kindess, no matter what the circumstances. We declared him the nicest man alive even before he sent by taxi a bag we left behind on our way to a river trip to intercept our tour bus so that we would "have our camera". If we had messages at the front desk and returned late at night, he would wake up to bring our messages to us. On our last night there, we were returning very late to the hotel and our taxi driver got lost and decided to call the hotel, before consulting with us (we wouldn't have wanted to wake Jose)- he was waiting for us at the front door and gently asked if we still needed our wake up call at six a.m. and reminded us that our taxi would be there at 6:15 to take us to the airport. Just a few hours later, he was up with us at the crack of dawn to make sure we had coffee and breakfast and made it safely out the door. The rooms are exceptionally clean and quite comfortable, better than anything you would get in the United States for the price. Breakfast of fruit and yogurt and bread and juice every morning. Wonderful, free access to internet/computers, not to mention wifi, and free laundry. We took several excursions, and every time we walked through the front door and were greeted with smiles, hugs and kisses on the cheek, we were relieved to be home! Highly recommended, and we hope to return, as we have family in the area.

Diamond in the Rough
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/21/08
A surprising diamond in the rough, a smaller, cozier setting seven kilometers from the airport of San Jose, awash with lots of attention to details and special touches. Our family was delighted with our accommodations at the Hotel Hojarascas. Owned and operated by a wonderfully warm and caring Tico family, we were immediately made to feel at home there. Not only is the hotel immaculate, but free internet service and free washers and dryers are available as well. And the breakfast spread is unforgettable- fresh fruits galore like pineapple, papaya ,mango and watermelon prepared fresh each day! The family members, and particularly Jose Omar, are great advisors for tours and restaurants and general information from banks and grocery stores to taxis. We truly feel our Tico experience was made so much richer for having stayed at the Hotel Hojarascas, hosted by such wonderful loving and professional people.

Wonderful experience!
By Lluís M (Girona), 12/8/07
I've already been in several hotels in Heredia and Costa Rica because I usually travel to this country within the framework of an exchange of professors with the "Universidad Nacional" (UNA) and "Universitat de Girona" (Catalonia). Thus with knowledge of cause, I can affirm that this is the best hotel I've been in Costa Rica! Clean, full breakfast with nice fresh fruits, free washing machine, free wi fi Internet, skype video conferences in any of their PC, centrally located in Heredia and a perfect base for doing other excursions and visits around and coming back at night, they pick up and deliver you at the airport free of charge (saving a lot of money!)... Really good value for the money but above all, what's more important and what you remember as the most important characteristic of this small family hotel is the friendliness and nearly loving care of their staff. A truly great experience!!

Best hotel for getting to know Costa Rica
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/07
We were received in this hotel as we had been friends with the owner for years. This is how the contact to the management can be described best. The quality of the accommodation is very high, it is very clean and continuous improvements are being made to the infrastructure. The free and unlimited use of internet and laundry facilities has been a great plus for us. We have toured the whole country and were able to keep the room as a "homebase". This was helpful in the aspect of leaving gear in the hotel and travel only lightweigt. Altogether we can truly recommend the hotel and would go back for another stay at any time. Priska, Catherine and Ronald from Zurich and Basle, Switzerland
