I am an extensive traveler so perhaps my expectations are high, but this has to be without a doubt the worst place I've ever been to in the Bahamas. I was told before I went Not to visit that place it was "Hialeah by the Sea" (trust me not a good thing).
Being open minded I always like to discover & form my own opinions. My friend was right on target. Just AWEFUL from beginning to end. With so many great destinations in the Caribbean I would swim by this place if we were shipped wrecked and needed dry land. HORRIBLE. Maybe in 10 years it could be ok, but now. THE WORST.
we came the wrong time of the year - there are very few guests and the accomadations are very inconsistent - no bar at pool ect.
the rooms are fantastic - the views are incredible - the pools are spectacular-
above all i have never had more freindly and accomadating service - they could not have been more accomadating-
If you are a Bride or someone planning on hosting an important event at this resort, PLEASE RECONSIDER! Don't go through the nightmare we have just been through!
I contacted the Resorts Wedding Dept about 3 months ago because My fiancé & I wanted a Destination Wedding. After exchanging a few emails with them and trying to gather more information the Resort's Wedding Coordinator Danielle Dunnfee (who is featured on the Resorts Site as she had her own wedding at the Bimini Bay) fell off the face of the planet.
Weird... ok, well we emailed another representative and started the process of organizing a family reunion on the Island, (as we had decide to do a small civil ceremony in Miami and do a nicer beach reception at the hotel) after several key email exchanges with Sina Kamlani, she too stopped writing back, we emailed another rep Scott Ward, and this other person finally got back to us, apparently no one at Rock Resorts believes in Auto Reply while on Vacation.
Fine enough, Sina came back from vacation we fleshed out all the details and signed a contracts to book 13 rooms and have a reception.
I was then told after executing the contract that the hotel event coordinator Anva Roberts, would be getting back to me. We waited and waited and finally 10 days later! if not more Anva gets back to me, after repeated messages. I explain my fiancé and I will be having a small civil wedding ceremony and wanted to have just a wedding reception on the island. She promises me to have monthly phone calls the 3rd Wednesday of each month so we would know the progress. We asia ton of questions and she promises to get back to us in a few days... we hear nothing, a month passes! We email Scott Ward complaining and he calls us and promises things will change and that all will be well from this point forward. Then Anva misses our arranged scheduled call, no follow up email apologizing, no contract (which we have now been waiting a MONTH to get) We send another email to Scott Ward complaining at this point my fiancé and I discuss that if not for family who has already booked, we would cancel the wedding reception at the resort because, we are afraid of them ruining our day. Well, Anva finally gets us a contract, when we get the contract there are "mistakes" EVERYWHERE!!! Mysterious $100, $200 etc charges that don't add up to the math are hidden in different sections, I am told I need to leave a $6000 deposit for a party costing less than $2,000. When I address the issues they are changed, but at the end of the day the contract was re-drafted over a handful of times due to "mistakes." I'm an Accountant, don't tell me $4+$4=$10.00, well that pretty much exactly what this hotel tried to do, except add a few 00's to the $4.
The last and FINAL straw (if you could believe we were naive enough to sit through all this, why we did go figure) when I signed my group contract i was promised an exclusive rate and that no third party vendor (like Orbitz, Travelocity etc) would have a better rate, so imagine our surprise when we log onto Orbitz and see a better rate!!!
I emailed Sina who did our group contract and she emails me back giving me a further discount on each room per night!
Great, we were so excited we texted and emailed everyone in our group! An hour something later she emails me back and says that she has to rescind the further discount! That she made a mistake, she says there is nothing can be done and that we are not getting a better rate. At this point my fiancé and I call Scott Ward and cancel everything, demanding that everyone be issued a refund. He sounded flat, completely unconcerned. How someone could just not care that a customer is so dis-satisfied that they have cancelled a large group event?!
I am literally 90 days away from my wedding, now having to re arrange everything and what had taken me months to plan and organize is gone, due to the lack of professionalism, & simple courtesy from the key players at this resort.
I arrived by boat. You need to rent a golf cart to get around the island. It was too far to walk to anything. The daily rental expense for the golf cart was ridiculous but you did not have a choice. Whoever owns the golf cart concession is making a fortune but they are flat out stealing your money. The pool was nice but we could not eat our hamburgers because the flies were all over everything. Bimini people put their garbage on the roadside so the insect problem is unreal. The website is beautiful but it's all a big lie.
This is THE BEST place that I have stayed at in the Bahamas!!!!
When we arrived by plane, the customs people were very nice, we then got on a bus, owned by the Resort, which then took us to the boat. The boat, also owned by the Resort took us straight to the resort (a four minute boat ride). The boat ride was great! We saw one side of Bimini and it was beautiful :) Once you start seeing the resort, your can't believe your eyes, it is amazing. You can see their bar, homes, and different stores.
Once out of the boat, we check in (fast and easy) and head to our room. The room was very clean, it came with chairs for the porch, bath accessories, clean sheets and bed spreads, beautiful decor.
We left our things in the room and headed straight to the beach. We explored the whole beach and it is the most beautiful water that you will ever see! There are some rocks that you can climb on and it feels like true paradise. We laid out near the Water Sports Activity area, which is awesome and a must do. We did different activities, like jumping on the trampoline and climbing the water iceberg, so much fun and a really good work out.
We ate at Amiccis for lunch and breakfast the next day; great pizza and bagels.
We ate at Sabor for diner, I got the whole fried fish and the conch ceviche, YUM!!!! It is best to eat inside when eating fish, you might get a fly or two flying around your food.
Everything was great!!!!!! I will be going again and everyday that I am at work, I am wishing that I was at Bimini Bay Resort!!!!! This is a great place for a destination wedding too, we met a couple that were there considering if they would wed there or not, and I can assure you that they will be, they loved it there.
The Resort itself was quite nice and adequate. We had a pleasant experience with the front desk staff. Don't forget to budget the 15% automatic taxes per day plus $8pp daily cleaning service charge they don't mention to you when you book the reservations. Activities are very limited unless you have access to a boat. A golf cart is absolutely necessary to get anywhere. We had an awful experience with SUE and JOY's located on the property. In spite of advanced reservations for a 6 seater Gas cart, and reconfirming the reservation 48hrs prior to our arrival, they did not have one available and stuck us with an electric cart for a day, then two four seaters, etc. Huge hassle and waste of several hours for several days. They pulled a classic "bait and switch" and I would never trust anything they say or promise. Check out ALL other options before renting from them. Nice pools on the property, not much else to do unless you have a boat. Driving into "town" and exploring the entire island was fun and beautiful. The conch salads prepared by the locals in town were terrific! Several goood snorkeling opitons if your adventurous. Overall, a bit over priced with all the taxes, but we've vacationed in worse locations. Yes, I would go back to fish or dive and probable stay at the BBR. Other options are now available on the island too.
I would not recommend this place to anyone who likes a resort where the staff answers your questions and tries to help you. If they don't know how to do whatever you ask, it's your problem. I asked the front desk for a pen and the lady asked me how long I would be because it was the only one she had. I asked if she knew what time the flights for one of the few airlines were leaving and she said she didn't know and gave me a blank look rather than offering to call. So I thought I would try to call myself so she just turned around the phone and said she didn't know if it would work but to give it a try..... When we called the shuttle after about 45 minutes of waiting to go to the airport the lady said "oh Shoot"!!! The locals are friendly and nice but many of the staff are anything but accomodating.
Infinity pool is more like an infinity footbath.
Can't get of this complex without a golfcart.
Construction and dust everywhere.
Except for "the resort beach" - small, skinny strip of sand backed by concrete - Bimini has a beautiful beach. You just can't get to it from this so-called resort.
Don't believe the website. Save yourself the trouble, money and disappointment: write a check for the full amount of your vacation, then burn it.
Bimini people are friendly and happy once you're able to escape this compound and meet them.
I went with my girlfriend to Bimini Bay Resort a few weeks ago and we had the most incredible time! We went for a quick weekend getaway from Ft. Lauderdale. The room we stayed in was huge with a full kitchen, living room, and separate bedroom. During the day we explored the resort, went to the beach, layed by the infinity pool, and went to the lagoon style pool to try out the swim up pool bar. We also had the chance to try out 2 of the restaurants, both of which served delicious food! I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. We can't wait to go back!
