So many memories
I have so many great memories of staying at the San Souci. I've been going there almost every summer since before I can remember. This summer was the first in a while that my family wasn't able to get down to the beach, and I really missed it.
First of all, the people who work at the hotel are great. The people are friendly and there are some fantastic local shops around. We've discovered many gems since we started staying there, including great restaurants and souvenir shops. It can take some digging to find the good places (as with almost any location), but it is well worth it.
If you're looking for a five-star resort, this is not it. It is small, and the furniture is old, and the sinks are sometimes rusted, but if you're like me, it's nothing to complain about. Instead of feeling dirty, I feel it gives the place the atmosphere of having been around a long time and having seen a lot. But that said, it's not for everyone, and that's okay. While it may be old, it is clean (if you don't mind the sand that you'll almost undoubtedly track in).
Still, the hotel itself is literally RIGHT by the beach, and it's easy to carry things like beach chairs and umbrellas down for a day by the water. Since the surf tends to be on the calm side, I do tend to see a lot of jellyfish there, and I usually don't swim in the ocean, but of course that also depends on when you go and can happen anywhere. On the other hand, I once saw some dolphins not far off the shore early one morning!
There's a new fishing pier near the hotel as well, and it's also a great spot to get some lunch. In addition, there's a park across the road as well and a very nice playground by the beach. As I said earlier, there are some great restaurants close by as well (and some not-so-great ones too...it's important to learn where to go and where to avoid).
Overall, while it's not for those who want to stay in a luxury hotel, it's a great place and very close to my heart. I hope to get back there soon. :)
