Waikeli Homestay - Fiji, Pacific Harbour

There is no better place to stay when you are in Viti Levu. There is no shortage of (bland) 5-star hotels in Fiji. You should branch out and stay with a local family - for less money but a much better experience. Waikeli offers amazing value: you stay in a beautiful private home. The house was designed by an architect (the husband, Murray) and luxuriously decorated by an interior decorator (the wife, Cacau). You'll enjoy the interesting collection of little knick-knacks scattered around the place, the stunning furniture and the airy, open-plan rooms. Not to mention the palm-lined, gravel driveway. As a guest you are lovingly looked after by the family with all the washing taken care of and a fresh local breakfast waiting for you each morning. The rooms is spacious and the bed is comfortable. The air-conditioning is a treat in the hot, humid Fiji weather. If you are into scuba diving there are fantastic dives waiting for you in Beqa Lagoon. Specifically, an amazing shark dive experience where you will see tigers, bulls, angel and reef sharks. If you're really into the tigers, be sure to check it's not breeding season when you are there (they go up river during that time). Great for couples but there is a no-kids policy.

Fantastic place! The house is absolutely gorgeous, and the hosts are terrific. Murray is a Kiwi architect, and Adi Cakau is his lovely Fijian wife. The room was a little small but very comfortable and pretty. There was a good little library of historical and contemporary popular books, and a small selection of dvds. Perfect location, right by the river, and only a short walk to cafes and a great curry shop! Also a couple good hotel bars, both backpacker level and another at a 5* hotel with delicious cocktails! My husband wasn't overly happy with the breakfast, but overall, he agreed that it was well worth the stay! Stunning house, great hosts, and lovely atmosphere!...Also, ask for some of Asaeli's fresh lemon juice..divine!
