Just up the charming street from where the ferry drops you off is a quaint 3 room hotel called the Balboa Island Hotel. You definitely get the feeling you've been transported to simpler time once you enter the Hotel. The decor is homey and comfortable and the inn keepers make you feel right at home. The hotel is conveniently located close to the ferry, beach, restaurants and shops. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and definitely plan to return. This hotel is very reasonably priced and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys that small hometown feel. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone looking for Hyatt type amenities with extensive services.
From the outside, The Balboa Island Hotel looks like a small hotel in a great location! Once you enter through the always locked front door, you quickly know it is different than other hotels.
Up a steep set of stairs you find cozy, clean, warm, homey rooms and quickly learn how gracious and genuinely nice the hotel managers are.
Although the bathroom is the smallest I have ever seen and is shared between the three room rentals, the charm of this establishment overshadows this mild inconvenience. From hot coffee in the morning to bottled waters, sun block, hair products, sand chairs and even a kayak for your excursions, it soon seemed like home.
It was refreshing to spend time in what seemed like a time gone by, where hospitality is geniuine and not contrived. The only thing missing was a hot baked apple pie cooling in a window.
We would love to return.
Thank you for a comfortable stay!
