Ohhh la la?
La Suite is not "average." But, it cannot be simply described as "good." To review this boutique hotel with a rating system is both too basic and does not accurately present what it has to offer or what you may be looking for.
La Suite will best benefit the traveller who is looking for a romantic, quiet retreat. This person should also be aiming for a sedentary approach to a vacation in Rio preferring solitude spent in his/her's lux room or sharing lounge time in the communal spaces (living room/"patio") with other guests or the owner's plethora of friends. It would also be helpful to have pocketfuls of cash since La Suite does not take any other form of payment.
If you have come to La Suite with the intention of seeing Rio, it may be challenging since this hotel is situated in a upscale, residential neighborhood that requires at least a 10-15 minute cab ride to and fro. Looking forward to soaking in one of the 2 pools? Well, only one exists and it is about the size of a large jacuzzi (although deep) with cold water. The 2nd pool is still in the works (12/06) and has been since April 2006. There is a nice beach nearby, but the hike is about 30 minutes over hilly terrain. As for meals, they are prepared on the premise by an in-house chef averaging about $75/person for lunch or dinner. Although it is not obvious since it appears with a fee on the room service menu and the owners do not volunteer the information, breakfast is included.
While the service at La Suite is good, it may not always offer as much "hand-holding" to sightseeing as I have experienced. So, to get the most out of your stay, come prepared with a good guidebook and some understanding of their customs and places to visit.
