Never staying here again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/29/07
My husband and I rented a cabin through Timberloft to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. When we arrived to check in, we were told by the employee that she had had a blow out earlier that day and didn't know if our cabin had been cleaned or not. We arrived to check in at 4pm (you can start checking in at 3pm if you wish). Instead of making sure the cabin was clean and ready before giving us the key, she just gave us the key and said it may not be clean yet. However, when we arrived at the cabin, it was in a semi-clean state (i.e., clean sheets on the bed, floors were swept).
Following is a list of the complaints that we had in addition to the unprofessional manner in which we were treated:
- One of the two front windows was missing blinds, and the curtains did not fit well enough to cover the entire window.
- On the website, it stated that we were renting a cabin with a "private hot tub on covered deck". To our dismay, there was a cabin next door to us with windows that looked directly at our cabin, specifically at the hot tub, and the driveway to the neighboring cabin was no more than 15 feet from the deck with the hot tub. Not exactly my idea of private.
- On the trim around the bathtub, there was significant mold and mildew.
- The light above the shower didn't work.
- The bathtub drained very slowly. Even though we only take 5 minute showers, the tub backed up to two or three inches in that short amount of time and took about 10 minutes after we got out to fully drain.
- The hot tub only worked once while we were there. When we arrived, it was at 104. The next morning, it was at 96, and even though we turned the heating all the way up, it continued to stay at 96 until 6pm that evening, at which time we left.
- The ceiling fan in the living area wobbled so badly when it was on that we were afraid it would fall, so we turned it off. We know the person who cleaned it knew because it was on when we arrived.
- The contract we signed upon rental was contradicting. The first page stated that we must leave our key locked inside the cabin upon checkout. The second page stated that we must return our key to the office upon checkout.
We are normally not complainers, gripers, whiners, etc., but the condition in which we found our cabin and the manner in which we were treated by the employee was unacceptable. We love to hike and camp, basically just love the outdoors, so we're not afraid to rough it. Regardless of where we stay, it should always be clean and we should be treated in a professional way. We are writing this review to hopefully shed some light on this business and prevent others from being ripped off in the future. (I might note here that we paid the same amount for a cabin in Pigeon Forge that was MUCH nicer.) Don't waste your money here. Also, these complaints have been sent to the Better Business Bureau and will be posted all sites that we can find. Hope they have been of some help. We also took pictures to verify all our claims. Better luck to future Helen vacationers!
