Getaway Oceanfront Lodging, Rockaway Beach

We stayed in unit #10. This one is on the second level and closest to the ocean. Beautiful view. One bedroom and a murphy bed, full kitchen. The rates were very reasonable. The rooms (which are all privately owned condo units) are not luxurious, but they're clean and well cared for. I would check on available units, however, not all have this view, particularly those on the first level.

Stayed in room 13 - what a view. Very beachy atmosphere. We were able to take our dog since its pet friendly. Has a full kitchen, so when it rained we made cookies and watched the storm. Maids brought us whatever we needed. Great place, great price too.

WE SPENT THE NIGHT AND THERE WAS NO ELECTRICITY! NO LIGHTS. NO HEAT. NO CABLE. WE COULDN'T SEE AT ALL! AND.........NO REFUND! STAY AWAY FROM THIS DUMP. THEY DO NOT TREAT THE GUEST WITH RESPECT

Our family has been going to Rockaway my whole life and have been staying at the Getaway for at least 15 years. We always try to stay in room 13 because it has a breathtaking view with great coastal decor and just steps away from the beach. Personnel for the motel are always friendly and helpful.

We love going to Rockaway in the fall. It's close for crabbing, tide pools, simple life. Getaway provides a comfortable, reasonably priced place to stay. They also have units that take pets for a reasonable charge. The only down side is that they seems to change managers every year so we never get to know them very well. We'll definitely be back again next fall.

This is our third year staying at the Getaway. My husband's family stayed here each summer when he was growing up. I have to say that it is a bit hit and miss as to the quality of the unit you get. We stayed in unit 11 this fall (2007) and it is horrible. Rust on the heating units, the refrigerator door is broken, the light is out, the microwave door is broken, there is only one rack in the oven and the tile under the sink is disgusting and peeling off. We stayed for 6 nights with three kids and we continually had to ask for toilet paper, soap and garbage bags. I finally asked for a vacuum cleaner to use today because the maid service that was supposed to come in after 3 or 4 days fell through. I feel like we wasted money and I had little vacation since I had to keep doing things that were supposedly to be taken care of since we have been given an envelope to leave a housekeeping tip. The manager was nice enough to listen to what was going on but offered no refund or options since his hands were tied evidently. I would recommend making sure what unit is being offered since when I asked about this unit on the phone I was assured that "all of our units are high quality and nice", and it just wasn't so. Since we had to book accommodations months ahead of time, we were pretty stuck as to being able to leave and find something else. I would not recommend staying here right now.
