Baer House Inn, Vicksburg

We spent a week at the Baer House Inn and it was the most delightful stay I have enjoyed, bar none! Doug is the most gracious host, far beyond what one would expect! He is incredibly well-versed on the history of the house and the city, offered expert recommendations on dining choices and was such a charming gentleman and host. His breakfasts are beyond belief! Everything was prepared fresh every morning for all the guests. And even with the Inn pretty full, he was the epitome of grace and warmth. The cocktail hour was lovely, shared with other guests as they might wander in, and we were fortunate to share our experience with my Sister and Brother-in-Law, as they were also guests. Our room was beautifully appointed,immaculately clean, and so beautifully romantic. I would advise anyone desiring a respite from the outside world to seek The Baer House out for several days! Doug probably thought the Clampetts had just arrived in town when we showed up. There were a lot of strong personalities in the group, and he handled the situation gracefully. A wedding was in motion, and the photographer wanted to use some of the bed and breakfast rooms in her pics. Doug obliged. He is a great guy that does his best to accommodate the situation. Young,rambunctious children, loud bridesmaids, demanding bride. Doug remained a gentleman. He fed us awesome breakfasts, and let us freely roam the grounds. If you ever need an overnight stay in Vicksburg with a truly genteel host, go to the Baer House.

Doug was an incredible host! Kathy was the perfect InnKeeper! The property was truly impressive and the breakfast was awesome. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and spend several days at this B&B......you won't be disappointed.

The home is simply put, beautiful! Extremely clean, private and without a doubt interesting. Doug was a fantastic host. Never intrusive but always available. He welcomed us into the home and gave info we needed. He spoke to us but made us feel comfortable and more importantly welcome. My wife didn't notice but when he was in the room he was always in the backgroud. Very professional and courteous. This isn't Day's Inn. The breakfast each morning was quite tasty and filling without leaving you feeling bloated. Our last morning at breakfast we asked a couple questions about the inn and he had a wealth of history that he shared after making sure he wasn't being to longwinded. He has obviously spent a considerable amount of time doing research. Very informative and extremely interesting. Finally, would I recommend the Baer House Inn? If it wasn't a "Thing to avoid" I would give my cell number so you could better understand how much we enjoyed the stay. Go. You won't be disappointed. Thanks so much Doug, We will be back.

We stayed in the Bonnie Blue room for three nights and were enchanted. The room and private bath were spotless. Location: unlike many of the other historic homes, this is not right next to the RR tracks. Doug is the perfect host/owner--there and a fascinating conversationalist if you need him, nearly invisible if you don't. He also tells a terrific story about the history of Baer House...and cooks up a tasty breakfast. He's a live-in owner, which I prefer in case an unforeseen issue arises (one was a dark and stormy night). Did I mention that the place is beautiful, clean, perfectly accommodating: guests have use of a small kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave upstairs to fix morning coffee or late-night snack. A stay at the Baer House is worth a trip to Vicksburg on its own merit.
