Great new choice in Truckee
As it started to snow we made a last minute decision to stay a Saturday night in Truckee and so called up a lot of the local hotels. Initially we considered the rate at the Cedar House to be a little on the high end, but compared to the rates we got from the standard, lower-end hotels like the Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, and Hampton Inn were offering it really was quite reasonable. The location is just down the road from historic Truckee, making it easy for us to grab dinner.
The hotel itself was brand new, and very inviting. The king standard room we got was a decent size, extremely clean, and very modern. Nice bathroom. It had a room safe as well fridge with complimentary bottled water (unlike the $3 water 'offered' at some places. I hate being nickel and dimed) The bed was super comfortable, and there was an LCD TV.
The continental breakfast was above and beyond the normal fare, with croissants, bagels, muffins. Smoked salmon, cheese, and assorted fruits and yogurts. They were also ready with fresh lattes and hot chocolate. For breakfast and in the evenings the lobby/bar was a comfortable place to relax by the fire. The owners (and their dog Jake) are extremely hospitable and engaging. We'll definitely stay at the Cedar House again.
