Riverside Hotel, Hot Sulphur Springs

I used to go to the Riverside hotel every year and stay fpr a week. Abraham owned and ran it then and we would would have great talks. I loved the food his crew put out. I don't know who took that picture of it but that is my black 1964 GTO parked in front of the Riverside Hotel. I sure miss the place. I am in the Philippines now so I will not be able to go there again and visit with Abe. Yes the food and service was wonderful. I had fantasies about buying the place in about 4 years.

I was just thinking about booking a trip to the Riverside again and noticed the bad review about the food?? We come to the Riverside often because we live in Denver and love the place, the food and the owners. The food is as good as any restaurant in Denver and the place is so charming that it makes for a great weekend get away for us. Anyone that is in a hurry should not eat at the Riverside. It is an experience, not a fast-food joint. It is a very small place and when the volume of customers is high, sometimes you have to wait for the kitchen and the staff to catch up. Nothing is worse than paying good money for a meal and an experience and having your food thrown out at you. The Riverside has excellent cocktails, homeade bread and people who care about what they are serving you because it is THEIR place. Anyone that can't appreciate character, excellent food and the laid-back, family kind of atmosphere should stay away. In fact, avoid the mountains entirely, because if it's your thing to be in a hurry and eat applebee's style stay in Denver or wherever it is you come from! The Riverside is full of character and anyone who isn't should just stay home.

The Riverside Restaurant was recommended to us for during during our one night stay at Hot Sulphur Springs. Good thing we have a sense of humor, if not we probably could have made a scene. We arrived for dinner on Saturday night and there was a 20 minute wait which was fine. We were seated at a nice 2 top. The restaurant was full with the exception of a table for 6. Everything started out fine with our drink order and food order and recommendations from the server. We ordered rack of lamb and swag (a fish from Vietnam) along with an appetizer. All seemed to be flowing well. We received our drinks and then salads. Shortly after our appetizer. But then there was a huge gap in receiving our dinner entrees. Everyone around us received their food even diners that arrived after us received their food. No one communicated with us what the hold up was. Went to the bathroom to kill some dead time and the bathroom was out of order. Came back and still no food. Eventually the owner, Richard came to speak to us about the delay. Said the lamb is up and is under the warmers and he wasn't sure exactly what the delay was. I imagined and commented the lamb was 'sitting under the warmers all this time?' Richard said 'oh, wee have good warmers.' Finally our food came. The lamb was positioned on a pound of what appeared to be canned peas and a square of scalloped potatoes. The fish that was highly recommend was served with cold mashed potatoes and spinach soaked in balsamic vinegar. The lamb was so dry and over done from sitting for so long under the warmer, the excessive amount of peas and square of potatoes made the presentation undesirable not to mention it just was not good. The fish was like a rubber tubular thing and was not good neither were the cold potatoes or vinegar spinach. Richard said he was sorry that they ran out of sides and the chef had to improvise. For our trouble and dissatisfaction he would comp our meals. We thought that was acceptable and tried to find some quality in the food plus we were starved. When the bill came only one entree was taken care of. At that point we had been there for over 3 hours and it just was not worth making a point of it. We felt like we were in a bad place where all was not so good yet everyone around us was delighted. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I understand there are off nights but the follow through from the staff and owner was not acceptable. The take away, we have something to laugh about and share with our friends.

We went up for a nice romantic weekend and to get away from the heat in the city. We stayed at the Canyon river Motel but were referred to the Riverside for dinnner. The food was fabulous. While we waited we enjoyed a nice glass of wine and met the owners Richard and Julie Paradise. Let me tell you it is paradise (pun intended). We loved the historic building they have renovated into a warm and cozy place. Warm and inviting. But mostly we enjoyed the view of the river while sitting on the patio. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner friendly staff and then moved onto the patio where we ended up enjoying a nice patio get together. We played some guitar, harmonica and we all chimed in with vocals. Richard lit a wonderful fire and makes the best lemon drop martini I've ever had!!! These are great people providing a cozy and inviting place. Can't wait to go up in the winter and relax in the from room after being in the snow all day. It's not too far from skiing and I so recommend it. Thank you Richard, Julie and Maureen. You made our weekend fantastic and we'll be back soon!!! In short we weren't even guests of the hotel but we enjoyed all they had to offer and can't wait to visit again.

Scary place. Every room has a womens name above it as if it was a brothel or was it?? Scary PLace ...Lokk for the Mona Lisa looking down at you by the upstairs hall bathroom. I think this place is haunted and I do not believe in ghosts...so I thought!!! My wife woke up and leaned across me and yelled at someone or thing and went back to sleep. She did not remember this, needless to say I did not sleep that night. If you are in for ascare then go besides that the old man who owns the place is weird but fun to talk to.

Can't wait to go back. Under renovations. Has had new management only 2 weeks. After an hour at Hot sulphur Springs spa, slept like a baby. Warm, homey, not for those who crave luxury, but getting away from all the hustle and bustle of city life,Yes baby!! 5 star high-end meal, served to prefection on white linens. Just what I needed to un-wind from city life/job stress. Can't wait to go back! Area must be absolutely beautiful in summer time. Take a step back to a simpler place in time. Wonderful people, great service!

Riverside Hotel is a throw back to by-gone days. It is a unique experience that will long not be forgotten. By modern standards, it is not. It is comfortable. Nights are cool being ventilated by open windows. The dinner meal is a real treat served on linen with large and delicious portions. If you like antiques, this place is for you. If you enjoy the unique in your vacation, this place is for you. Come prepared with cash or personal checks, not cash.
