The website stated the Inn was newly renovated, it was horrible! The outside of the building looks as if it is about to fall down. The rates they state on the website are incorrect. The man working the front office argues about everything, he thinks he is never wrong.
If you want ice, you have to pay for it, it is a quarter a bucket. No kidding! The website states they have wi-fi, but the entire time my wife and I stayed, we could not get online. One of the workers/owners would come out and fuss at guests if they had their pets out on the lawn, and they state they are pet friendly.
Overall this was a horrible experiencce. Next year we will be making reservations else where.
We asked for more cups and the owner told me I had to provide my own. I thought all motels provided styrofoam drinking cups... the room had a single cup coffee pot, but no cups.
What I most liked about this place is how quiet it was. I have stayed in many cheap motels from Washington State to Florida and just as many expensive hotels from Southern California to Niagara Falls and I have NEVER stayed anywhere that was as quiet as this place. I was so surprised one day to walk out my front door and look down and see that there were several teenagers having a rowdy good time at the pool (as teenagers on vacation should) but I didn't hear any of it in my room, not even with the large front window overlooking the pool. I never heard the neighbors and I know we had some because they were traveling with us. Last time I stayed in a motel (in Amarillo) I could practically hear the conversation of the people next door. I was very, very impressed with how quiet the Surfside Inn Suites were.
And they have the second best refrigerator I've ever seen in a hotel. The first best was in an extended stay place I was at for a 7 week long work assignment so it's almost not a fair comparison. We did pay the $5 extra for the kitchenette so our refrigerator was a bit larger and had a separate freezer compared to our friends next door who just had the standard room. They commented that their refrigerator was so cold their fish got frozen (not a bad thing either since we needed to keep the fish cold to get it all the way back home before putting it in our freezer).
The shower was more than adequate. The lighting all around the room was fantastic. I spent a lot of time in the room with my child while the guys were out fishing. We played games, I read while he napped, my husband got up and dressed early while we slept in, and all of it with enough lighting options to be very comfortable.
Honestly the outside looks as run of the mill as every other cheap coastal hotel, but the inside was fantastic. I am over the ocean about the fantastic value of this lodging. You do have to drive to the beach, which I'd rather be able to just walk to, but this inconvenience is offset by the really nice and long pier in front of the hotel. We enjoyed an evening fish from the pier and were also able to let people off the fishing boat early when kids got bored and the rest of the group could sail off onto their merry fishing way while children and mom's walked down the pier and back to the hotel.
I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful and clean the Suites were at Surfside. I love the family atmosphere and yet single adults would still enjoy themselves. The pool is nice and sparkly and my kids lived in it!
Neil and his wife, did everything they could to make our stay memorable. We will no doubt be BACK!
P.S. You can't their prices!!
Surfside's location is terrific! Excellent, warn, clean pool. We stayed in the new suites. They are beautiful, light, newly revonated rooms. Very tastefully done. These suites have all new beds and showers. Very, very clean rooms. A must for staying a month like we did or just for a weekend. Suites overlook pool. Very spacious!
My parents became Winter Texans in 1994, to get out of the Minnesota winter weather, enjoyed it very much. my father passed on, & my mom said "I can either keep being a Winter Texan or stay in Minnesota". I have been driving her down there the last 2 years.
I feel it is a very "Safe / Secure " place for mom to spend her winters.
The owners are really friendly & helpful to make sure you enjoy your stay.
Ther rooms have been remodled, very nice & clean.
I feel staying @ Surfside would be a excellent choice to stay.
My family and friends really enjoyed spending our Spring Break at the Surfside Inn & Suites. I have been staying here for over 15 years. Neil and his family have really done a lot to improve this place over the recent years. It is very clean and comfortable. The rooms were just renovated last year and they kept the price very competitive. I would definitely recommend this place to all of my friends. They did a great job converting some of their rooms into 2 bedroom suites that can accomodate up to 8 people. The heated pool allowed my kids to swim regardless of the cold temperatures we had to deal with. The private fishing pier is also a nice bonus.
My mother is a Winter Texan so I have been coming twice a year ~ December and March for a while now. I really enjoy Surfside. The view is fabulous, the bay in front and the wildflowers in the back. Neil and Mosmi are so friendly and helpful. The courtyard is inviting with a pool area, picnic area and plenty of room for socializing with your new friends. The rooms are all redone and really nice, but don't plan on spending much time in your room!!! Even in December there is loads to do and Rockport is at the hub of it all. Staying at Surfside is a GREAT choice!
I have been staying in Rockport during the winter for 18 years and have stayed in a total of 5 motels. 9 of these years have been at Surfside. The rooms were totally remodeled in 2009. It is my winter home for 3 months. I check around from time to time and it is the best value for the dollar I have found. Location is great. I love the bay and the long dock. Returning friends from all over the United States seem to agree and have become my winter family here at Surfside. Neil and Mosmi, the owners, do anything they can to help you. I tell everyone I know about this wonderful little motel on Little Bay in Rockport, TX.
Surfside inn might be the best kept secret in Rockport. It is hidden on the ocean drive, but you can find everything you need. Fishing, beaches, and a huge dock are just a few of the amenities. All rooms are nicely remodeled and priced very affordable. I enjoy this place better than the big chain places.
I have been going to Surfside for many years in the summer and fall for fishing trips. I have been very pleased with the care the owners take with the guests and they are very friendly. I went this last summer when they were remodeling and the owner showed me around and was very excited about how everything was going to look better. I'll continue to stay here each year, I enjoy the small bay view and pier and the short distance to all the Rockport amenities.
