This is a great place for a family to go for a summer vacation. Mind you this is a Resort not the Ritz. It brings you back to the days of the 60's. The cabins are clean and just right in size. Enough to spend a rainy day playing games with the kids but not huge but when you go to such a beautiful lake why would you want to spend the day inside. With both an inside and outside pool it is perfect for the kids weather sunny or rainy. The staff are great and willing to help with anything you might need. We plan on reserving a week next year after we get the kids schedule being today is the first day of school.
I have been to Gull 4 Seasons on both occasions of small family summer vacations to our big family reunions and have not had one complaint about it! The staff is always been more than friendly, very accommodating and extremely helpful! The resort itself offers a nice array of options, from the pools to the huge beach space and the wide open grass area to which we have made miles of memories playing games on.
We rented the pontoon on this last visit and were very impressed with the quality of it, the kids had an absolute blast! We also rented a boat lift to house our personal boat and the lift was well maintained and the staff made sure to check in with us a few times to make sure all was going well.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a classic up north summer vacation :)
Thank you Gull 4 for a wonderful, memory filled vacation and see you in 2013!!!!!
We met up with friends and shared a 2 bedroom cabin. We had a great time, boating on the lake and swimming at the 2 pools. An indoor pool was a highlight on the one rainy, windy day we endured! The rec room was also a highlight for the kids. I found the office staff to be very friendly and accomdating and the overall ambience to be rustic and charming. While it is not the Hilton, one would not expect it to be, it is truly a "cabin" and we loved it. We have already made plans to back next year !!!
Extremely poor guest service. On our 1st full day at the resort, my wife and 2 children went swimming at the beach. Upon exiting the water all 3 were infected with Swimmers Itch (a parasite that burrows under your skin and creates an awful itch). We spoke to the owners of the resort who immediately informed us that all of the resorts on Gull Lake had reported bad swimmers itch. Their son’s also experienced Swimmer Itch when they installed the docks in the spring. When we inquired why we were not informed at check-in and it was not posted at the beach the owners replied they did not want the guests to think the pool was also infected. Furthermore, the owner stated they did not feel it was their obligation to inform their guests at the resort of the swimmers itch. My wife’s swimmers itch was so bad she spent the afternoon at the urgent care in Brainerd to get a topical ointment rather than enjoying her vacation with the family. I would not recommend this resort to anyone due to the lack of owner responsibility.
I will first start with the dislikes. The cabin wasn't nice at all. Outdated and unclean. We thought we would up grade to a cabin this time. But wasn't an up grade at all. The year before we had a challet, one bedroom. That was so cramped and the range top was unbelivable. Nice fireplace though. Long walk to get to the dock area. Steep and tall steps. A long stride from one to another. And the way you had to get the boats out, if you didn't have a lift. Then you weren't able to park by the cabins either. This again means a long walk back and forth. Not everyone has good knees or legs. They show on thier web site how good the fishing is. Well I asked more than once or twice what is that best way to fish Gull? I got a little feed back from the staff. All they would say that they hammered them either the night before or yesterday morning. Never a statement " How's things going guys? Need any tips or anything?" No one asked how the cabin was. Or how our stay was going? Furniture was very uncomfortable . And that updated tv, wow. Really!! Has anyone every looked up to the roofs of the buildings? The gutters are full of pine needles. I asked the owner about it and he said. " They don't make a good gutter cover, to stop the needles from getting in. It looked to us like they were just lazy . A family that knew people would always show up every year. So now when we went to leave, I went to settle up. For gas and oil. And I made my problems known to the front desk personal. She didn't say nothing. Not "How was your stay? Was everything ok? Are you coming back? What do you think we could improve on? " Here we will take off a small amount for this or that. " Some thing for us having a bad week stay. She just kept her mouth shut and gave me my receipt . With the look on her face that said please leave quickly. I mentioned to my son as we were pulling out. That it must be nice to know that you don't need repeat bussiness. The only reason why we came back for a second year, was that we saw what other people caught and thought that we had fished the lake wrong. That brings up another subject. We were going to hire a guide for a day. They want $260.00 for four hours. I don't think so. That is over $60 an hour. It would be different if this was an high end resort but come on! So we learned our lesson and will never return. The way that front desk person acted , they won't miss us not coming. I tried to find some where to write this last year but didn't find anything. So tonight I was looking around on the web and dicided to check out thier site. This popped up and said " Write a review?" So I did. I gave it a one star rating only because I couldn't find the half star image.
We stayed at Gull Four Seasons Resort for our third time last August. We stayed in a 3 bedroom condo right by the lake. The view was fantastic and the condo was clean and well kept. I really enjoy the fact that we had our own gas grill, the dishwasher was a plus also.
The grounds at this resort are well kept, and there is so much grass, trees and open spaces.
The help we received at the lake and everywhere on the resort was outstanding.
Gull Lake is a great lake for fishing and boating and we had a blast!
We have checked out a lot of Minnesota Lake Resorts over the years, and this (Gull 4 Seasons Resort) is the best for our family.
This resort also has the Minnesota weather beat with an Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, and even a kiddie pool. We love the game room too with the classic games that you can't play on a computer, what fun!
I and the people we see at this Minnesota resort will agree, this is a good choice for your family vacation!!!
We love this resort. The one thing I wish they would get is wireless internet. This resort is family oriented and very friendly. Cable TV, indoor & outdoor pools, this resort has it. I hope to keep going here for many more years.
This place is in dire need of upkeep. The beds are hard as rocks. The sheets are so thin, you can see thru them. Bring your own blankets because they are gross. The kitchen was so dirty that we had to spend an hour cleaning it and then rewashing ALL of the dishes after scraping all the crud off them.
On two different days, we had to request that they skim the bugs off the pool. I even offered to do it myself to get it done before 1 or 2 in the afternoon. It took about an hour one time and there were still about a million (no kidding) bugs floating in there after they were done. (It would help if they repaired the skimmers by putting flaps to keep the little buggers in there. Also, buy a new bug skimmer net that doesn't have a huge rip in it.) My kids wouldn't even swim in there without being bribed.
The front desk people are not the least bit friendly. How tough is it to say 'Hi'? There are serious cobwebs on all of the buildings and look like they haven't been hosed down in years. The washers and dryers at the laundromat don't work for beans.
This place is extremely overpriced. We paid $1600 for a 2 bedroom plus $100 to keep our boat there. We've travelled all over and this is twice the price they should have charged. When we left a day early (paid for all 7 though), nobody even asked us if we enjoyed our stay and nobody said thank you - even once.
They have only one tiny tv in the whole place. The refrigerator was so hacked up inside that it caused bleeding scratches on our fingers. The shag carpeting isn't too inviting and the paneled walls and low ceilings give this "condo" a very cabin feel. They don't recycle anything but cans, so we had to bring back home our glass and plastic. There is no maid service of any kind - you bring your own bath and kitchen towels and soap - and you bring your garbage out to the cans yourself. They don't recycle anything but cans, so we had to bring back home our glass and plastic.
On the plus side, each unit gets their own gas grill and patio with picnic table and a plastic table and chairs and we had a nice view of Gull Lake. Also, it wasn't crowded as the place was quite empty. (Hmm, I wonder why?) Also, they didn't tell us that check-out time is 9:30am until you check in.
