South Pier Inn, Duluth

We just returned from a three night stay at the South Pier Inn. We booked well in advance(seven months ago) for the lower level Panoramic Suite. The location is great for summertime strolls over the Aerial Lift Bridge to the Canal Park area. And, everyone gathers outside by the canal to watch and photograph the ships pass through the canal area. We walked everywhere instead of driving a short distance and fighting for a parking spot. You are walking distance to Grandma's, art galleries, candy shops, etc. I hadn't realized there is not a swimming pool onsite for my pre-teen girls, but they didn't care once they saw the view from our room and deck area. They thought the corner whirlpool was great. The staff were friendly and prompt in their service. My only complaints were the noisy upstairs guests I could hear until 1am one night and I could hear the upstairs whirlpool draining from above. And, the bed was a little to soft for my liking. Overall, a great place to stay. We usually try to stay at a different place each time we go to Duluth, but we booked again for the off season...the rates are great come the end of October for the same room. If you have small children, I would suggest another location.
