Rye Beach is a most wonderful place. The area is serene with a lot of wildlife bustling around. Speaking of wildlife, at check in the inn keeper and his wife had cigarettes hanging from there lips with the ashes just dripping on the floor. i should have left right then, but the area is so nice I decided to stay. BIG MISTAKE. The rooms are run down, dirty, and smell of old cigarettes and fishguts. I had been on the road for days so the first thing was a shower. the shower had a hole in the subfloor causing it to have a crack. The toilet would not flush right. I told the inn keeper he said he would look into it ,in the mean time we could use another rooms bathroom. I asked why not just change rooms he said he could not afford to move us because he had someone coming in the morning and would not have the staff to clean the room. My family put up with this because he said he would snake the toilet first thing in the morning. At 11:00 A.M. he still had not done anything. We decided to find other accomadations. I went to the office and told him we have decided to check out, wewould pay for the two nights we slept there but the rest of the week we would like a refund, he replied that there are no refunds and he could not refund the credit card because he was not the owner and the owner is the only one who could do refunds. We left anyway I hope that I get a refund and do not have to seek legal action. I would not recommend this place and I cannot believe the local people of Rye let a place like this conduct businees in their community.
I cnt speak for the motel, but the cottages leave a lot to be desired. There was rat poison under the beds and on top of the fridge. The linens are dirty tattered and full of holes. The cottages leak all over when it rains and sthey are dusty, dirty and unclean. It is in a great location but I could barely sleep there knowing what filth we were in!!! Spend your money else where!!!
