The perfect country retreat
By William, 05/26/09
We're been visiting Piney Hill as often as we can for the last 8 years. Every trip is a pleasure, from the comfortable and immaculately clean rooms to the warm welcome to those amazing breakfasts. Far enough away that you feel like you're really away from it all -- but close enough to be easy to get to, and home again, without all the relaxation wearing off by the time you get home! Easy place to recommend highly. Be sure to book early if you have a special weekend in mind.

We can't stop returning time and time again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/07/07
On our first visit to this charming country bed and breakfast 6 years ago we were welcomed at the front door with such a warm welcome which immediately gave us a feeling that we were more than just guests. We were now part of their family. We were so impressed by the warmth and hominess. Hank & Wiley, led us all through the farmhouse giving us a small bit of history of how it came to be Piney Hill. When lounging around the grounds, we enjoy gazing at the mountain views from the front porch, under the willow tree in the garden area or from the outdoor Jacuzzi. It soothes the soul. After an incredible breakfast, we head out to the town of Luray which is full of wonderful shops and places to eat. Besides doing all of the local attractions and area wineries over the past 6 years, we have also ventured out to Monticello, The Natural Bridge and the Charlestown horse races and casino. We also enjoy antique shopping and flea markets which abound in the area. Hank and Wiley recently built a barn which looks as if it's been there for years. It houses their gift shop which is a Must Do before leaving for home. I have found many treasures in this little barn. I definitely have to say that when they advertise as a relaxing, adventure or romantic get-away, they hit the nail on the head. They are superb at giving directions to various places of interest, make dinner reservations for you, and are always happy to offer advice on places to visits. I am most impressed with the way they know when you need some alone time. We will continue to visit Piney Hill, making new friends and seeing old friends. there are quite a few of us who keep coming back. Did I mention we've stayed in every room including the romantic cottage! It is truly our home away from home and I encourage everyone who reads this review to give it a try. Tell them Cathy sent you:)

Awesome Mountain Views in the Rosebud Cottage
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/07
Piney Hill is by far the best Bed & Breakfast we have ever stayed at! After living in the big city for so long, I didn’t think such a setting could possible exist anymore; except in my dreams. The Rosebud Cottage is so nice. Every detail we could desire has been attended too. The wonderful breakfasts brought to our door each morning completely spoiled us. The mountain views on all four sides, the bucolic setting, the home and gardens, all made us feel as if we really were at home to wander as we pleased. We will always remember our wonderful hosts and their gracious hospitality. We want to return already! I will miss Piney Hill and the Rosebud Cottage. I feel blessed to have found such a wonderful place.

A Great Romantic Get-Away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/21/07
I could not have asked for a better place to celebrate our first anniversary. The Inn (House) was beautifully decorated with the mountains of the Shenandoah as a backdrop. The breakfast each day were superb. The innkeepers were enjoyable to talk with and provided us local information and maps to make our stay all the more enjoyable. Thanks for everything!!!!

A True Virginia GEM
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/21/07
Piney Hill B&B is a true "Virginia Gem"! Hank Overton and Wiley Gregory have created a getaway fit for a king and queen.Their initial warm greeting at the front porch sets a positive tone for a most memorable stay. The house is somerthing right out of Country Living Magazine. Warm country furnishings, priceless antiques, vintage pictures and the smell of fresh baked goods make this B&B a must to experience. The rooms are confortable and cozy, the breakfast devine and the views of the mountains priceless. The many numerous attractions around this area make Luray, Va. a must visit destination.Thank you both for another wonderful stay.We will continue to come back for many years to come. Here's wishing your fine establishment continued success in the future.

"It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/07
I found Piney Hill after an extensive internet search and with the help of TripAdvisor, my favorite travel website. I was looking for a quiet and romantic place to stay for my honeymoon and saw that Piney Hill was rated in the Top 10 B&B's in the country. Although I was thinking that sounded too good to be true, I have always trusted the information on TripAdvisor. This place is just gorgeous. We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage and it truly doesn't get any better than that. Trust me, I have stayed over 1,000 nights of my life in hotels and nothing has remotely compared to Piney Hill. Who needs swanky hotels with impersonal service and people milling about everywhere? We arrived around 10 p.m. the evening of our wedding day, and Hank was waiting to greet us with a big smile. He and Wiley couldn't have been sweeter. We were very tired from the day's activities, and they offered to help us unload the car, which was greatly appreciated (especially at that hour). When we walked into the Rosebud Cottage, I didn't realize that was our room at first - I thought it was the gathering area in the main house because it was so roomy and beautiful! Hank and Wiley had a lovely wedding card waiting for us and chocolates on the bed. We stayed three nights in the Rosebud and we did not want to leave. I could honestly live there. It couldn't have been more quiet, romantic and relaxing. The views in every direction are amazing, and we really enjoyed the farm cats that visited us every morning. My favorite part of the cottage was the screened porch with the beautiful wicker furniture. A fabulous, home-cooked breakfast was brought to us in a lovely picnic basket every morning, and we could eat it at our leisure. We didn't even have to be awake when they delivered it! We also loved the huge Jacuzzi in the garden under a beautiful willow tree - we had it all to ourselves each time we used it. The landscaping surrounding the property should be featured in a gardening magazine. You could eat off the floors in the Rosebud Cottage - it was that clean. It was decorated very tastefully and seemed brand new. Hank and Wiley never bothered us during our stay and respected our privacy, but they were so very gracious when we did approach them with questions about the area. Our honeymoon was mainly spent in the cottage, but we did venture out for a few meals (don't miss The Artisan in Luray), horseback riding, and a 4 1/2 hour float trip down the Shenandoah River. It was absolutely perfect. We would recommend Piney Hill to anyone and everyone without an ounce of hesitation. We hope to return in the future to relive the wonderful memories that were made there. Thank you, Hank and Wiley, for an unforgettable stay. You have set the bar for romantic getaways. :0)

Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast in Luray, Virginia
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/07/06
This is a lovely, comfortable inn. The breakfasts are great! We loved the garden areas -- lots of private little nooks and sitting areas, each with a pretty view. Hank and Wiley made us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived! It was incredibly nice to find an anniversary card in our room. Thank you! We especially appreciate all the help and tips for places to dine and places to go. This made our weekend go so much more smoothly and a lot more fun -- no wasting time flipping through guide books! Loved the chocolates and cookies! We enjoyed coming "home" to the inn each evening. We look forward to a many return visits to Piney Hill B & B as we continue to explore Luray and the Shenendoah Valley.
