It was nice and friendly atmosphere. Love to see the sunset. Great spot to relax and go fishing on your boat. The private beach area is great and having your boat on the dock ready to go any time make it very nice.
I have been staying at the Bay Cove for years. I found it by accident around 1980 when my car broke down at their front door, The next day , as I fixed my car under a shade tree at the Bay Cove, my companions spent a lovely day there and we have been going back as often as possible. We live in Florida and go to the Bay Cove frequently. If you wish you may call me, Harold at 954 270 4827 and I will be glad to tell you about this only motel I ever go to in the Florida Keys. It is not hard to get to, no long drives and is a tropical paradise in paradise. After you drive into their driveway which is a stone's throw from food and shopping you pass under some huge shade trees and into a long super shady tunnel of large trees. The individual cabins or studios on the left are super clean, super cool and well furnished in a 1950's style. clean baths, lots of towels. Real windows that open with blinds that open and close with the pull of a string. At the end of the drive there is their own small sand beach in crystal clear waters. Free kayaks all day long. A long dock with chairs and swimming ladder on the end in crystal clear water about four and a half feet deep. Despite being on the Florida Bay side, Bay Cove is in extremely clear water, you can actually see the fish by the dock... and is separated from Florida Bay because it is in a pocket bay called Buttonwood Sound. Sunsets are long and beautiful. Fish off the dock for Snook, Tarpon, Mangrove Snapper and many other Caribbean fish, or just let the kids catch small ones right and left in the water by the dock. The Sound is also a natural fish breeding place for most Caribbean type species. Mr's Mac;s Kitchen, a few steps away out on the main road, is famous but not pricey nor crowded, a typical 'Keys' eatery that has typical meals from ham and eggs, conch chowders, real hamburgers and up to full four course meals. The live bait and fishing equipment an tackle shop is a few steps away. Get a few dozen live shrimp and catch fish all day from a comfortable dock. Even though stores, restaurants are only a few steps outside the property, once you step back inside the property and through the shady tree portal, you could feel you were a thousand miles away on a tropical beach. For larger groups there are apartments and efficiencies right on the water's edge. Owners and attendants are always close by if you need anything. The place is super safe for children and older folks. The small sandy beach is gradually sloped and quite safe. You will look out at sailboats anchored in the water a few hundred feet off your own dock and left and right are other small docks and lovely Keys vistas. Rates are about the most economical around yet you get a great room, efficiency or studio and quick, friendly service. Many restaurants and Key Largo attractions are very close by like an Underwater State Park, Glass Bottom Boats. There are many attractions close by. anything you or the kids want are a block away at the complete shopping plaza so you don't waste time running around for things, everything is right there. Also, it is closer to Miami, by at least 100 miles, than Key West, where lodgings can easily be three times the rate at the Bay cove. I believe the Bay Cove is about a little less than an hour's drive from Miami International Airport and is an absolute, lovely car trip, often over scenic high bridges, usually non-stop. The drive alone to the motel is extremely beautiful. I would recommend the Bay Cove to anyone. You will always go back.I would suggest to anyone who wants to stay in the Keys to check them out and avoid the long 100 miles farther ride to Key West which is crowded and over-priced. Once you get to the Bay Cove, you just park your car and leave it at the door of your room or cottage and the beach and dock are a few shady feet away. Close by are nice local stores, eateries and small waterside bars with music. You'll love it!
