Island Retreat RV Park, Gulf Shores

I am only rating a one star because it has gotten to the point where we leaving Island Retreat due to the deteriorating condition. We have been staying in this campground for several years because we love the location, our fellow campers, and the church services that are offered to our children. My family and approx. 15 other families stay here every summer but are currently looking for a new location that can accommodate all of us because the condition of the pool, playground, showers, landscape, manager and some of the staff. The pool is way too small for this size campground and there are no lounge chairs so you have to carry everything to the pool when you go. Also if you leave your chair overnight it will be thrown away. They are throwing away brand new loungers that still had tags attached. The pool is also Gunite and is in desperate need of resurfacing, there are holes in the bottom of the pool to the point that our kids feet will actually bleed if I let them play in it all day. The playground has duct tape keeping it together. The manager has a double wide on site and she raises pit bulls that bark all the time and the smell of dog feces is awful if your site is close to her trailer. And then there is a man named "Red" who works there who is always drunk and he will curse at you and your children. The playground is run down as well as the bath houses. It actually took two years to fix the A/C in one of the bath houses! The showers look dirty and some have holes in them, some bathrooms are missing the drain covers, and some of the shower wands are broken. There are site that the neither cable nor internet work on and have not worked in years. These have been reported to the manager but have not been repaired. Don't get me wrong there are some good workers like Melissa, Bill and a few others at Island Retreat but AIG Baker really needs to pay attention to their investment. The joke around the pool is actually that AIG must have purchased this location for a tax write off and really does not care if they keep customers.
