Kalahari Resort, Sandusky

my cousin went to kalahari she said she had a blast and for the service i feel why they are mad because, all the people there. but i did here about how they don't keep the rooms very clean

We just got back from this for the first time. I had read the bad reviews and took note. Our experience was overall a positive one. It was expensive but so is any amusement park. There are places to eat nearby so it is not necessary to eat at the resort. We have no complaints about the customer service and I am very particular. The lifeguards looked bored and surly but were friendly when spoken to. They were very attentive. In the wave pool they were blowing their whistles at every little thing, which I liked. I even got caught doing things I didn't know wasnt' allowed. There is a lot of walking especially if your room isn't close and ours was not. My daughter had a blast and was sufficiently wore out at the end of the day, as was I. More than two days though and we would have been bored. There is a nice arcade with a mini golf area. The tree top play area is dry fun for young children too. The rides were alot of fun even with all the stairs. There's no getting away from stairs when you are riding water slides. They've got to come down from somewhere.

My family and I have stayed at many places around the Dells. We hadn't tried Kalahari, because their rates are so expensive in comparison to others. We went in early March (off-season) before the spring break crowd. The first issue was the fact that the chlorine level in the pools was way too high. My oldest son (11 years) had chemical burns from the water and was crying about the pain. There were supposed to be lifeguards, but I could find none to help us. The "helpful" woman at the front desk said, "Just have him take a shower, he'll be fine." After one hour at the waterpark, the kids were miserable and didn't want to go back because their skin was on fire, so we went to our room to care for them ourselves. The room next to us was occupied by at least 4 heavily-drinking/partying 20-something guys who were kicking the walls, screaming and fighting until 3 am, and blasting music most of the night. I called down to the lobby 3 times asking for someone to talk to them, as my kids were scared of the noises and could not sleep. I was too scared to talk to them directly because they were obviously drunk and fighting. First 2 times there was no response. They said they tried to call the room and no answer! The third time a "security" guard about 70 years old walked up to the room and yelled into a 2-way radio "I can't hear a thing!" When I opened my door to talk to the security guard, he was walking away and I was yelling for him. He clearly could not hear that either. It would have been great if they had sent anyone but the hearing-impaired staff member to check out my noise complaint. When I called again, nobody answered the phone. So I gave up. Although we were supposed to stay another night, we decided to leave early. When I complained to the check-out person at the front desk, she said, "Well, you didn't call enough times." I pointed out that I tried to call and nobody answered. She said there was nothing she could do about it. She was very blunt and rude and clearly just wanted us out of there. When I asked about the chlorine level in the pool, she said she didn't know anything about that. I asked to talk to someone in charge of the pool chemicals and she said, "If you don't like the pool, then just don't use it." I assured her that, not only would we not use the pool, but that we would never return to their resort, and I would be sure to tell anyone who would listen to stay away from there. If you want a good resort experience that costs this much money, go to the Wilderness Resort. I have not had a bad experience there and they listen if something is wrong. The Kalahari is over-rated and over-priced, with poor service and unsafe water. I was almost a week before our family's skin was healed. I sent a follow-up complaint to Kalahari's customer service management and never heard a word back from anyone there.

I like the Location of it, Be prepared for a lot of walking to get to and from your car and possibly to your room, Most people are walking around lost trying figure out which way is which, the confusing part is the Lobby is located on the 2nd floor, people still think they are on the ground level because this place is built kind of on a hill, there should be sign's pointing to the lobby from every area, and there is not, this is why my family's legs are so sore from walking, if this place had a parking garage, it would had been so much better. So here's what I did like, The arcade was fun, all the water rides are fun, even for our 4 yr old with a life jacket (Kalahari Supplied) of course had fun, the water temp was like bath water, that was a plus, and there was outside water activities also for those wanting some sunshine. and here are my dislikes, I could hear conversations in the next room until the wee hours of the night, people running in the halls, showers and bath water running at night, A coffee maker in my room with no cups to drink with ( how dumb is that ? ) there is a feeling of being made to leave your room in a hurry on check out day, they scramble your tv signal I suspect so you don't drag your feet leaving, so no news or weather channel on checkout day, I'm surprised they don't cut off the hot water in the shower. This is a crowded place, if you don't like crowds, you may get annoyed standing in lines at times, but your kids will enjoy themselves in the least. check out time is 11 a.m. but they will you to use the waterpark till 3pm after checkout, a late checkout would certainly be nice since light sleepers might still be tired the following day from the noisey night's sleep. If you choose to do the safari adventure, a word of advice, you might as well spend the $20 on the large bucket of carrots for the animals, because you will be kicking yourself for buying $10 worth of crumbs, yeah It's kind of a rip off, but it's very cool to get up close and hand feed a Giraff a carrot. The dinning there is FANCY, Be prepaired too pay $$ and there are burgers and pizzas also that are a little less, you can spend as much or as little as you want there. I paid $225 for my room with 2 queen beds (very comfy) and a whirlpool bath and shower and a balcony, and this all included admission to the waterpark and safari adventure for 4 guest, so overall, not to bad I guess.

I will never go back to the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky. Staff at the entire hotel is awful, extremely rude, uncaring, and even inattentive at times. The waterpark itself had some safety issues that made me uneasy, including wobbly steps on high stairs. Trash laying around park. Often out of towels, and for some reason there were no towels ever provided in the locker rooms. At one point two staff members made slanderous accusations against my boyfriend and I, and threatened to kick us out without proof. Regardless of the fact that their allegations were false, they handled them inappropriately--instead of taking us aside they informed us in front of a large group of other guests of at least twenty people. So, if you like your character being defamed, rude staff, and unsafe conditions this is the perfect place to spend your hard earned cash.

I went with a bunch of friends and the waterpark was amazing. The rides were fun and the lifeguards were fun to talk to. The staff is all very friendly. The park and the hotel were clean. I didn't stay overnight but i was in the lobby. It was over all amazing.

the price for the waterpark was a little expensive 78 bucks for 2 of us. the rides where awesome. i didn't really like all those stairs. The arcade was pretty fun. so if i could stay overnight there i would. the waterpark and lobby and arcade area where we walked through was very clean. and the showers and towels were very clean also

I loved Kalahari-I've been twice, both times with two little kids. I've read the bad reviews here, and I'm sure that things will go wrong sometimes and you have to keep that in mind, but I had a great time. Very nice rooms-the water park is EXCELLENT! The outside part is always a bit crowded, but not overcrowded. The inside is the same. Has something for every member of the family, including kiddie pools and intermediate pools. Very safety conscious-lots of lifeguards. When we were in the wave pool, it got a little hectic. Overall, I give this place a 4.7/5: a bit expensive but if you look for good rates, it is well worth it!

I make an appoint to visit Kalahari's at least once a year...... me and my fiance have no children but we enjoy the experience every time!! It is a great place to unwind and relax.... I would recommend this resort to anyone that is planning to go to Sandusky, OH. The experience is worth the money!! Have a great time~

Have been to Kalahari 3 times. First two were great; third was bad news. Rates were inflated, crowd in water park was out of sight, many attractions were shut down completely or closed intermittently during our stay. It was obvious that facilities cannot keep up when rooms are sold out. And on top of that, they still admitted out of resort customers. Definitely all about money at this time of the year!!! If you want a good time, avoid holiday periods if at all possible.
