Great hotel, can't wait to return!
My family decided to cut short a stay in the san juan islands and spend a couple of days in seattle. I've stayed at Kimpton's Alexis Hotel, right across the street, on a few occasions, and tried to book two rooms with them. they wouldn't guarantee me the bed configuration i needed (2 rooms, 1 with a king, one with two queens) so I booked Hotel 1000 the day of our stay. We arrived late in the afternoon, tired from a long trek that included a missed ferry and some really heavy traffic. From the moment of our arrival, the staff and hotel was extraordinary. The doormen were extremely friendly, and the desk clerk was a dream. She upgraded us to water view rooms, and made us feel welcome and appreciated despite our travel-weary appearance. I have stayed in many, many hotels, and never had a friendlier staff. Hotel 1000 is hiring the right people!!!
Our rooms were glorious, the view was incomparable (we were on the 11th floor) and while they were on the small side, that, in my opinion, is to be expected in an urban hotel. The beds were divine, luxury all the way, plenty of desk space, a very comfy chair with a good reading light, and a great spa bathroom with a tub that i just wanted to live in. What more do you need?
We had room service for dinner that night, it was prompt and delicious, and when i called at 10 p.m. and asked for extra pillows, they were there within 5 minutes. I have to say that I've gotten a little used to the urban, "i'm too hip for you" attitude that many in seattle have, its par for the course at any of the Kimptons. It's not unfriendly, per say, but it's not friendly. Hotel 1000 has none of that, it's customer first all the way. The hotel is just the right size, it's big enough to feel big-city, but small enough that service is fast and you're never a mile-walk from the elevators.
We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Boka, and it was superb. Very reasonable price-wise, for the location, and being in a hotel. Plus, once again, super-nice servers and the hostess was amazing, she spent 10 minutes helping my daughter figure out how to get online with her iphone.
I truly cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. I booked it through expedia, and paid about half what the rack rate was on the hotel's website, but still was upgraded. I will never stay at another hotel in Seattle as long as Hotel 1000 is there. You can't beat the location, and the rooms are everything you could hope for.
One word of maybe not caution, but something to be aware of for anyone visiting seattle, this area (pioneer square, pike place market) is a gathering place for the down-and-out, and you will get panhandled. Many of the folks on the street are very out of it, and many that we saw on this trip were crying loudly. New trick? I don't know, but it is hard to walk by even for jaded city dwellers. You might want to keep loose change, or one dollar bills, in a pocket you can get to, so you don't need to open your purse or wallet if you do want to give someone some money. Be aware of your surroundings, and if you're not really comfortable in a city, grab a cab for after-dark excursions. We walked around a lot in the evening, but we're pretty experienced with the area and with cities in general, and even we felt the need to cross the street a couple of times to avoid some really, really aggressive panhandlers. I wouldn't want my mom or my teenagers walking around alone at night in this part of Seattle. But that's probably true in any big city, we're from the San Francisco bay area and it's certainly true in many parts of San Francisco as well.
Back to Hotel 1000, it's a great hotel in a great location in a great city, and you won't regret a stay here!
