Not coming back.

This past weekend, my mom, aunt and I, stayed at this Holiday Inn Express, Shreveport, Bert Kouns. My mother and I had stayed with them in 2007 and loved it! This is why we made reservations for a very special weekend for my mom and aunt! My mom's 60th HS reunion and my aunt's 53rd. We were having a great time! Lovely hotel. Saturday morning we got up to get ready for the reunion at 1:00pm. We left the do-not-disturb sign in the door until we got ready. We left around 12:45 pm. We returned approx. 5:30 pm. Our room had not been touched. No new linens, or bath accommodations. No one replenished or made our room fresh. We were told this is standard for stayovers who leave after 1:00 pm and we should have not had the do-not-disturb sign in the door, they could have come in while we were getting ready. Toni Johnson, the General Manager, left a letter with our welcome package, asking us to be sure and let her know if we were not "Very Satisfied". The Manager at the desk, Shetima was exceptionally kind and helpful. We would like to thank her for her great customer service and understanding. Toni Johnson left her cell number on the letter to welcome us and asked to be sure and call if we were not satisfied. We (mom, aunt & I) called her yesterday morning. She told me that the staff was limited and that this was a typical stay. If we had wanted our room freshened we should have left our do-not-disturb sign out and let housekeeping come in while we were getting ready. She told me because of the limited staff, they were not able to get to rooms after 1:00 pm and that was standard and typical. I suggest if you are planning a stay at this hotel, you get up and go before this time to have your room replenished. We called housekeeping when we returned that evening, asking for towels and when she came to our room, she said housekeeping left early because they were not busy. She asked if we needed anything else and left. We did not have washrags in our linens. I called back to housekeeping at approx. 8pm. She said I would have to come downstairs to get my hand rags. I asked if someone could bring them to our room (318) and she told me there was only 1 person at the desk. My aunt went down to get 3 rags, and there were 2 people there. The girl (who had given us our linens earliers) was there. She argued with my aunt that she HAD brought wash cloths...unbelievable. We got up the next morning and left, telling Shetima, who was the manager that morning and she told us to call Toni Johnson. We were going to anyway.
Toni told us that what happened to us was typical and that they had a limited staff. I suggested to her that maybe she should tell guests in the future, to be sure and get out of their rooms early if they are staying over because the staff leaves. Too bad if you need to get ready for a special occasion, as we did.
I am very dissappointed with this kind of service, especially since we paid $375.00 to stay.
Let me say as well, for the most part, the staff were very kind and helpful, aside from this and especially, Shetima...thankyou for beng great and helpful during our stay.
We do not want to make trouble or complain unneccesarily, but are we wrong to expect better service. Toni Johnson did not respond as her letter suggested. She told us that she was glad to know and appreciated our call, but did not appoligize for the inconvenience, except that she would talk to the staff about improvements in the future.
