We were really pleased with our stay here. We stayed at the Baymont for 5 nights while on vacation in Galveston. We had two reservations, originally for four nights and then decided to arrive a day early and stay an extra night. The first night was great and the staff was exceptional when we asked to have an ocean view for the other four nights. We were fortunate enough to receive the room with the best view of the gulf. Not to mention we were not changed additional fees for the upgrade because at the time we reserved our first room the rates were higher so the upgrade was free to us. Both rooms were comfortable and clean. The balcony that overlooked the gulf was peaceful and relaxing. We plan to stay here again.
My family and I stayed at Baymont Inn in Galveston in June '08. We found the hotel a great place to stay. The room was very nice, clean, within walking distance of beach--plus we had a front room and could see the water from our balcony. We enjoyed the hot breakfast each morning! We enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay there again!
My wife and I stayed for three nights. Here is some of what we encountered:
-We got there the first day at 2:30. Checkin was at 3:00. When we asked if we could possibly check in 30 minutes early, the woman at the front desk was extremely rude.
-The bathroom ceiling had a large area of black mold on it.
-There were oily-looking stains on the sheets of the bed both times we had the sheets changed.
-We had to go to the front desk every day because both of our keys wouldn't work (to the room door or the outside doors).
-Our room was next to the electrical room. It would make these loud metal on metal clicking noises at all hours of the day and night (possibly the hot water heater).
-We went to use the hot tub one day. One of the members of the grounds crew put a water hose in it while we were in the hot tub and started to put cold water in it.
-The capper was seeing two large cockroaches near the bathroom sink the last morning.
This place is not worth the few extra dollars you will save. Do NOT stay here!
Pool is the size of an oriental rug. (not kidding).
No where near the beach...and it is the worst part of Galveston.
There is a reason this place has availability when everything else is booked up.
That reason is not how new the property is.
We had a very nice stay in the king jacuzzi suite. The room was large and airy, smelled fresh and clean. High ceilings and granite made it especially nice. Pool was nice and clean, but it seemed like most people had made the short walk to the beach and left it for us alone. Didn't have any dealings with the staff except for check in and out, which was fast and painless. Highly recommend for the price and amenities.
This hotel is brand new and very clean, and has amenities usually found in higher priced hotels in that area, such as a hair dryer, coffeemaker, microwave and mini-fridge. My moderately priced room had a tiny balcony that did allow me to see a tiny slice of the ocean. The pool and hot tub looked inviting, although I didn't get around to trying them out as I spent most of my time on the beach, which is a quick walk across the Golden Corral parking lot.
The staff was courteous and helpful when I needed them, and unobtrusive when I didn't.
One caveat: The "business center" consists of two computers, with no printer in sight. They work fine for checking email and surfing the internet, but folks who need actual business services such as fax machines and copiers will be disappointed.
Some reviewers have mentioned that the hotel is difficult to find, but I found the directions on their website easy to follow.
One minor point, a list of TV channels in the room in the vicinity of the remote would be helpful, not that I spent much of my time in Galveston watching TV.
All in all, I'd certainly stay there again, and I'd recommend the Baymont over most of the equivalently-priced places on the Seawall.
