Just spent a week here. THe hotel is wonderful. Very clean, great food and service. Unlike the other review we didnt find it hard to find a chair by the pool except on Sunday it did get busy. THe music by pool was great I thought not that caribian stuff you hear at other hotels. The massages were awesome got 2 each. COuple things they need to work on the fitness center is outdated only 2 treadmills and the other equipment they have is crappy. The weight machines are old and out dated. For as nice of a place they need to really work on this as fitness is the first thing we do in the morning. No free weights either. THe ride in from airport took 2 1/2 hrs First had to wait in the bus for others to fill it (we were on a delta vacation) then there is construction leading to the hoetl that tied us up for about an extra 40 min. GOing back to airport was smooth sailing took exactley 50 min in a minivan. THe food is wonderful but we liked the buffet at night better than the sit downs that you had to make a rsvp for. We did go to the other rui properites to have lunch and by far this one is the nicest but most expensive. ALso the comforter on beds were crappy. THe place is very nice and they need to upgrade the comforter

We can't wait to go back- all 28 of us!!!!
By ,
My daughter wanted to get married in Mexico, so after much research we chose the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. There are several other Riu hotels here so I can only speak for this particular one. Our wedding party consisted of 28 of us, including 2 children (boys,11 & 13 years old). We were given a choice of locations for the ceremony and chose the gazebo overlooking the beautiful beach. Ael Encisco was our wedding coordinator, and she did a fantastic job from the chair bows to the Mariachi band-- who followed us from the gazebo to the hotel lobby where the reception was held in a private area. Our guests stayed varying lengths of time, and did different activities such as swimming with the dolphins, and parasailing (loved it!) and we were assisted in these plans by Alex who was easily found each day in his office in the hotel lobby (no pressure to do anything!!)I can go on & on about the service, food, special amenities(spa!), but my advice is to experience it all for yourselves!

Over priced
By ,
Spent 2 weeks at this hotel in Apr 06, just a few months after it opened. Was very disappointed. We picked this hotel (the most expensive in the RIU chain) because we wanted a really nice vacation (we were familiar with RIU Palace hotels). Pool area was hectic, had to get up really early to get pool chairs. Pool area reminded me of a 2 star Cancun hotel (loud, drinking, partying ect). Not what I expected from a RIU Palace. Coffee was bad and hard to get (especially in the mornings). Drinks in general were poor to bad (plastic glasses). Again this is a RIU Palace. Rooms were just OK, but noisy (ALL) the time. The prior year we stayed at the RIU Palace in Cancun and we spent time at the others. I would have picked any over the RIU Palace Riviera and should I return to the Cancun area, I will not be staying at this hotel EVER.
