Confirmed & prepaid reservation not honored- family put on street
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/5/07
I booked the hotel through their own website last October. My reservation indicates that we are 2 adults and 2 children- the only room offered to that size party is the 2 queen room. The room was not refundable or cancelable.
We arrived on check in date, 6 months later, 375 miles from home, exhausted. The hotel does not have a queen room for us. Due to fire codes we are told we cannot occupy a king room. The manager tells us that we are not guaranteed a room preference; we are out of luck. No apologies, alternatives, compensation of any kind. They do call a nearby Marriot to see if there is a vacancy.
My money cannot be refunded to me except through corporate, which will take 3-5 days I am told. I get a letter verifying that.
Dangerously exhausted, we get back in the car to find a place to stay, which was much more expensive and also caused us additional unanticipated expenses due to lack of amenities we were expecting.
When I called to complain when my trip was complete, I was told I should have been comped at the Marriot the first night, and received the difference in rate the second night, plus transportation. She will contact the manager to settle this issue with me. The manager says only we will refund your deposit amount- the one they told me they would refund 11 days previously. It actually takes another 8 days or so for this to be done, prompted by my persistent calls and emails. I have not been compensated yet for this overbooking which was mishandled by the management- Do not trust them with your money or your vacation/business trip.
