meh
It looked like it had seen better days. I'm guessing it has recently changed hands, when we checked out the desk attendant asked us to leave a review somewhere, and the decor seemed to reflect trains, which is not consistent with a standard Knights Inn. The hotel had an underlying neglect, and a smell I can't quite put my finger on (maybe mold in the walls due to improper care after water damage from hurricanes?), but seems as if the bulk of the cleaning is getting done. The details were ignored though, mostly vacuuming under things and along the edges where the vacuum needs attachments to clean. I got the impression that it was family owned, I saw an older gentlemen helping clean the rooms, the front desk was not staffed overnight, and there was a mobile home in the back yard. The pool was green, I'm doubting they took care of it, so I am not sure why they bothered to keep water in it, it would have been safer to drain it and cover it, removing the drowning hazard. The breakfast was a standard cold breakfast. It would have been nice to have fruit and a waffle-maker, it's a pretty simple step from a blah breakfast to a decent one. The hotel is across from the beach, but there is a divided street and another row of buildings between the hotel and the beach, which makes me wonder if the public can swim on that part of the beach, we didn't even try. Basically, I changed my point of view from "we're staying in a hotel room" to "we're camping", and my attitude changed from "should we let the kids stay here?" to "eh, we'll wash everything when we get back", and then things went smoothly. I suspect things might change over time if the hotel has truly changed hands as it seems. The location is just fine, it's easy to get to all the popular touristy places. I would label this a hotel that is OK for sleeping only, it's not really a relaxing atmosphere. I would have forked over the extra $30 for a better place if it hadn't been an expensive holiday weekend.
