You are paying for its location, thats about it. I didn't notice the rooms to be all that dirty but the wireless internet sucks and is good mostly just for checking emails (sometimes slowly). It has a free adult channel if you're into that which you may find you are since the TV lineup is fairly limited. As of 6/11 the rooms are newly renovated but it is mostly the bathrooms that are affected (they are very clean and nice now). Not worth the money but then again I have stayed all over LA and have yet to find anything worth it's money. You just aren't going to get what you pay for in expensive LA.
EDIT: Further stays here confirms that you may or may not be able to use the internet so I wouldn't count on it. In addition they speak very poor English so communicating any problems can be a challenged. I paid the guy $75 cash for another day and an hour later he came to my door asking if I was checking out or paying for another day so get receipts if paying cash.
It was dirt and hairs everywhere, on the bathroomfloor there was a huge pile of black hairs i cant believe how anyone could miss it unless the cleaner was blind or if they even had a cleaner. When i stayed there they changed the locks on the doors to safer ones. This was july 2010. Good location at the begining of the boulevard of stars. But thats it.
Along our route to Cabo San Lucas my boyfriend and I stayed a week in L.A to deal with a vehicle dilemma, we stayed at this hotel and decided it was decent because some of the staff were really lovely and the location was convenient. However, upon returning we stayed here again and experienced the most horrible hotel/motel experience imaginable.
After staying at the hotel for two nights we decided to drive to Vegas - still booking the room at the La brea hotel because we had so many travel belongings for our month-long road trip. We stayed an extra night in Vegas and called the La Brea hotel and asked them to charge that evening and the following evening to my boyfriends credit card.
They said that it was fine and we assumed our things were ok only to return and find that they had not charged the credit card and had thrown all our personal belongings into broken boxes in their bed bug ridden storage room.
My boyfriends IPOD and bose headphones were also was misplaced in their "packing" and after changing into some of the clothes that I had brought along that were packed in those boxes I have approximately 15 bite marks on my body. So $600 later I'm trying to look into reporting this awful "business."
Please, for the sake of your sanity and your belongings DO NOT stay there, the manager is completely unprofessional and it is not worth the hassle.
when i first arrived in LA, coming from sweden i lived 3 nights at a expensive hotel in downtown. Going by bus back and forth to hollywood everynight i started to look for a cheap motel. I think this motel is great cos its worth the money, as the reviewer before me mentioned, great location, and i didnt find it very dirty at all. So if your in Hollywood as a young tourist, alone or with friends, i think this is the place to be. when it comes to safty i'be been there twice now and going again in april 2008, and i would never choose a motel/hotel that made me worry about my safty. Its a big city and ofcourse you gonna find some weirdos there, but as i said poor security was never an issue
This is a little mom and pop place straight out of the 50s, and they still have the same towels from way back then! They actually give you a cloth place mat to stand on instead of a bath mat, and the towels are the smallest, thinnest towels I have ever seen in my life. I consider it a small step above camping out.... but you can't beat the location. Beds are pretty comfy, area does NOT seem safe at night, but for a night or 2 it does the job. If you like "roughing it" and saving your money for other things, this is the place for you...if you like things clean and safe, keep on going!!
