We had an unfortunate experience with this motel. I made a reservation over the phone over one month ahead of time. I asked for a confirmation but was told that confirmations are not given/sent but that it was impossible for them to give the room away now that I had been "entered in the book". I was given a price, room number and check-in hours. We arrived soon after the start of the check-in period to be told that there was no record of our reservation and that all rooms were booked. And the only solution offered was provision of phone numbers of a couple of motels in Glendale. Of course, since this is the only motel in La Crescenta, this was not too helpful. No compensation was offered, and it was claimed that La Crescenta motel has no relationship with another motel propietor (as other lodging providers may have to accomodate this situation) . Beware.
My various family members are scattered across the La Crescenta Valley, from Tujunga to La Canada. We have known the La Crescenta since it was the May Lane Motel. Since moving from Los Angeles to Northern California, when I come to visit, and want to stay in a motel, I stay here. Not changed much since the Route 66 era, but the rooms are neat with some upgrades and have all the conveniences (microwaves, fridge, cable TV). The location and price are excellent.
Some may come here for the "thrill' of knowing it was featured in a movie or TV show - but for us it was coming home. There are NO motels/hotels in the La Crescenta/La Canada/Montorse area and we have many family members living around there.
The La Crescenta Motel is charming, spacious, clean, and in a beautiful setting all around.
We enjoyed our stay and will continue to come here in the future - thank you for your hospitality!
While it is certainly quaint, this is definitely a "Mulder Motel", and if you are an X-Files fan, you will know this locations was used for season 7's Sein and Zeit episode, and while it is iconic in a sense, to be here, all this room is lacking is Magic Fingers. I say take pictures, but stay elsewhere.
