Excellent stay, beautiful place, comfy bed!!
By ,
Great little gem in Ft. Davis, easy to find. It's beautifully decorated and has 12 ft. ceilings! Breakfast fare was excellent, and our host David was friendly and very helpful as a local "concierge". Our room was toasty warm despite the chilly January temperatures. We'll be back!!

All that we had hoped for and more!
By ,
The pictures on the website do not do the Inn justice. The wonderful adobe structure is elegantly furnished with period piece antiques. Each morning David and his staff prepared beautiful and delicious gourmet breakfasts. We enjoyed rising early and having coffee in the gaThrden. The atmosphere was pleasing and relaxing and everything we hoped for. David was a suburb host and made us feel very welcome. The afternoon treats outside the dining room were an unexpected bonus. We came to eagerly anticipate what each afternoon might bring us in the way of this delicious treat. We would highly recommend the Veranda to friends and family!

friendly, comfortable historic inn
By ,
Our family travelled to Fort Davis to visit the McDonald Observatory recently. We were pleasantly surprised by this charming inn which is both historic and comfortable at the same time. The innkeeper took great care of us, serving us home cooked gourmet breakfasts (egg and cheese souffle, biscuits and bacon one day, applesauce oatmeal pancakes the next), offering tips on local restaurants and hiking trails (we would never have found out about the nature conservancy's beautiful trails--open just once per month--otherwise). When our son suddently developed strep throat, he helped us find medical care and provided applesauce and yogurt to sooth his sore throat. What could have been a scary experience (sick child on the road, far from family doctor) was easily handled and we were able to continue our journey. We will recommend this place to friends and hope to return.

Wonderful stay in beautiful historic inn
By ,
This is a spectacular and unexpected jewel in Ft. Davis. This historic inn (dating from the 19th century) is absolutely charming with incredible furnishings, beautiful sitting rooms and airy, cool patios and verandas. The rooms are super clean and well appointed with 16 foot ceilings and very nice (if not super luxurious) lay outs. David Schreiber the new owner (as of 7-2010) is a natural B&B keeper; extremely friendly, helpful and informative but not intrusive. Four star breakfasts and a wonderfully serene place to hang out, with no TVs (but wireless). Ft. Davis is ideally located to experience the Davis Mountains and surrounding sites (half hour or less from Balmorhea cold springs, Marfa, McDonald observatory, wonderful trials and hiking). For a fantastic and serene stay in an amazing historic setting the Veranda is five star all the way.

Overpriced and Uncomfortable
By ,
You are not allowed to use the front door after you check in and must enter thru the dining room for the rest of your stay as well as park along the side. The beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable with only fabric covering the springs on the mattresses (no pillow top here). There are also no TVs or radios in the rooms or in the common area. The pictures of the garden area on the website are false. There were no pots with plants, flowers, etc. and it only had a tree. The breakfast was much less than expected. Definitely stay somewhere else in Fort Davis if you want to feel welcome, relax, and get a good nights sleep.
