My husband and I stayed at Pontiac Lodge Hotel for 5 nights. We stayed in room 23, the jacuzzi room. The room was very clean and was larger than it appeared to be in the pictures on the website. The bathroom was big as well. It also appears that the owners have updated the room since the pictures were posted on their website. The bed seemed brand new and had modern bedding, which was a nice surprise! Our room was on a corner and we loved to just sit and watch all the people and horses. You can sit at the table, or lay in bed, and look out and see across Hoban Street or down mainstreet to the lake and watch the ferrys, ships and barges go by, or you can sit on this short dresser thing and look both ways down main street. Our room had an air conditioner, which worked very well, and was quiet, but we only used it at night. With the windows being on both sides of the room, the breeze kept the room a perfect temperature durring the day, but at night it got a little chilly and the streets can be noisy at times, even in the middle of the night, that's why we ran the air at night. The jacuzzi was wonderful, it was definately large enough for 2 people, and it was very clean. My husband was very happy the room had a flat screen tv with cable and a mini fridge and microwave. The food on the island can get quite expensive, so we brought hot dogs and soda with us so we wouldn't have to eat out for every meal. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. They came by every day and would clean the whole room and give us fresh bedding and towels, but they won't bother you if you put up a do not disturb sign. The stairs to the hotel are located off of Hoban street, kind of in a dead end alley. There is a bike rack for "hotel guests only" in the alley behind the stairs, and there were rarely any bikes in it except ours. We locked our bikes up at night just to be on the safe side and for peace of mind, but I don't think there would have been any problems.
Of all the places we've stayed on the island over the years, this by far was our very best of all experiences! The accomodations were outstanding. The room was exceptionally clean and we certainly appreciated all the "little extras." The staff was caring, attentive and very willing to meet any of our needs. This was the warmest and coziest place we've ever stayed at. (We couldn't believe the rates were as low as they are!) We've spent $$$'s per night in other hotels on the island and never had such wonderful service and accomodations! When it was time to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, we could have chose any where to go... We chose Mackinaw Island and Pontiac Lodge! It was perfectly romantic, the surroundings were beautiful and the Lodge helped to make this memorable weekend our happiest ever-- our own personal, "Somewhere in Time..." Thank you again and keep up the outstanding work!
