Snug Harbor Marina and Resort, Chincoteague

My family spent the whole week at Snug Harbor. We were celebrating our family reunion and we have to say that Snug Harbor and the island was just perfect choice for our gathering! We were able to book all the cottages (we booked it a year ahead)and have the whole place for ourselves. The view from the marina was just amazing .Wild ponies running free across the channel, tiki huts, sand, palms,beautiful sunsets...There was a constant breeze and we sat at the marina for hours talking, laughing and having a great time. The cottages were nice and comfortable and the staff was friendly and warm. Basia and John were very accommodating and really made our reunion a memorable one! We also rented boats and experienced the beauty of Chincoteague and Asseteague from the water. It was a lot of fun and we would recommend it to anyone who is visiting Chincotegaue. The people on the island were also very friendly. Overall, our stay at Snug Harbor was amazing. When we left we really felt we found a place to relax from the stress of the world, and we can't wait for the next time to go back to Snug Harbor.

Snug Harbor on the great Island of Chincoteague is a great place to experiance the charm of nature. My nature group took a vacation here in 2011 and booked the whole hotel for a kayaking trip around Assateague and Chincoteague Islands. The nature was incredible with great bird watching and of course the wild Chincoteague ponies were always willing to pose for pictures. Snug Harbor is right on the water with great access to the National wildlife refuge...you can't get any closer. If you are looking for waterfront or nature there is no better place!

We are horses lovers so we couldn't wait to go to Chincoteague for the famous Pony Swim. We have always wanted to go to Misty's home :) We picked Snug Harbor for the place to stay, cause they were right on the water, they had great reviews and the cottage had a kitchen so we were able to cook our meals and save a lot of money. We were so shocked when we got there and we realize we are right by the actual Pony Swim! Like a minute away. What a location! We couldn't pick better spot. We were so excited! What's more they also have a marina with boats and kayaks so we rented a few, paddled for about a minute to the Swim spot and we were so close to the ponies that I couldn't believe it. They swam the ponies from Chincoteague to Asseateague right in front of us and I was able to take o lot of great pictures and kids were more than happy. It was worth every penny we spent. We drove all over the island afterwords and Snug Harbor has definitely the best location, no doubt. If we are lucky enough to do it again we will definitely stay at Snug Harbor cottages. The whole Pony Swim experience and Snug Harbor will stay in our memories forever.

We love this place Captain John & Basia are tops. We catch crabs, cookup great food and just really have a great time. Jerk chicken on the grill, steaks, steamed crabs, & Captain Johns famous clams. He'll cook them for you if you ask nicely.

Shabby. Poor customer service. There's no reason to stay here.

My husband and I had the extreme pleasure of staying at Snugs Harbor Marina and Resort this year. We couldn't have asked for anything more. The hospitality given by John and Basia Shields made us feel like part of their family. They are extremely pleasant and very helpful and knowledgeable about the Island and its specialilties it has to offer. We walked out of our adorable cottage and right onto the beautiful deck that overlooked the old lighthouse across the bay and the wild ponies as well. I can't wait to see my photos. My husband spent his time fishing from the docks while I had fun catching crabs. John and Basia have made this vacation the best ever for Chuck and I and we will definitely return next year. We had it all, rentals on boats, kayaks, party boats and more. The beautiful landscaping gave us the feeling of being on a tropical island. The rates are reasonable and we had so much to enjoy by staying here. The ocean is 15 minutes away and when we had enough of the hot sun, we came back and enjoyed chatting with others and John and Basia. The cottages were very clean and very nicely furnished along with having a kitchen complete with pots and pans, dishes and more. We only had to buy our food, the rest was furnished. John and Basia, you two added so much fun to our vacation that you will have to see us again next year!!! Thank you so much for everything you did and for being so sweet and helpful to Chuck and I. We will let all our friends and family know, they no longer have to look for a vacation spot. We already found it. Chuck and I can't wait to visit you again. Snugs Harbor and Marina Resort is the only place to be in Chincoteaque, Va. You can't go wrong.

Snug Harbor Marina & Resort is a hidden gem and my wife and I are so happy we found it. The cottages are in excellent shape and very well maintained. The location is excellent. The ponies on Assateague Island are directly across the bay. We enjoyed watching them roam and romp at sunset while relaxing at a tiki hut; and in the morning we saw them while doing some great crabbing right from the piers of the property. It was the best! What was most impressive is that the owners who actually manage the property were on site and were very accommodating and engaged with the guests in a gracious manner. We actually had coffee with them in the morning after crabbing. There is much to do here, for all ages; and if you are looking for an experience other than many typical hotels on Chincoteague, I highly recommend it. This was our first stay here and we are planning on a return visit in the very near future. It is well worth it and the price is very reasonable.

We very much enjoyed our vacation at Snug Harbor. We enjoyed it so much that we are going there again this year as are a number of our relatives. We liked the pleasant atmoshere and people. I think we most enjoyed just relaxing at the Tiki Bars and watching the boats go by. Cottages are quaint, nothing fancy but adequate for a place to sleep and eat. The outside amentities are terrific.

When I booked the cottage at Snug Harbor I was a little hesitant because of some of the bad reviews that was posted, but I took a chance that they were people who are never happy, and I am glad that I did, the place was great!!! My girlfriend and I came up for a four day weekend and we were welcomed by Basha! The owners of this place were very helpful and always very pleasant. The cabins are modest, but clean and provided all the comforts that we needed during our stay. I tried to tie the bed on the roof of my car, but it wouldn't stay, LOL. One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in besides my own! My friend found the futon to be just as comfortable. The view from the docks are amazing. I enjoyed waking up and having my coffee on the dock, watching the boats and the birds. You could see the lighthouse from the sitting area and if you get up at 5am as we did, the ski over the bay area is amazing! I definitely give Snug harbor, Mike and Basha a two thumbs up! I have stayed in Chincoteaque many times over the past 20 years, and will definitely visit them again!!!! Thank you for a great couple of days!

When we first arrived I was overwhelmed with the beautiful, scenic views surrounding Snug Harbor...the ocean, lighthouse, wild ponies across the water and palm trees all over the property. What a nice begining of our little gateaway! In addition, from the first moments when we were checking in the staff of Snug Harbor was extremely welcoming and hospitable. They made us feel like a part of their family or VIP customers :) Our cottage was very lovely, clean and cute. And the bed... it was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. I wanted to take one home with me:) We really didn't feel like going back to PA. I wish we had booked at least a full week...We wanted to extend our vacation, but unfortunatelly they were already fully booked. No wonder... Overall, a very pleasurable experience.
