Serviceable motel with hard to beat service
There are two reasons to stop at someplace like this: because all the hotels in-town are booked or if you've made a long drive and you can't even keep your eyes open to make it to your destination. It is not someplace you would seek out and, in fact you might either pass it or take a picture of it to show the quaint accommodations in the area.
But, I found the staff to be helpful and engaging. I got really good directions from the person that ended up checking me in. She stayed with me on the phone and gave me helpful landmarks until I figured out my way there. The person that was on overnight duty asked us in the break room if we had everything we needed. I have been at nicer hotels and nobody asks it, or if they do, they seem like they really don't want you to answer, "No." My room had a smell, the outside pool didn't look clean, and some of the guests looked like they lived here or were regulars. I silently kicked myself for being cheap and was just about to check out and go to a motel closer to my old college, but the softness of the towels, sheets and pillowcases and the hot do-it-yourself waffles convinced me to stay. What was also amazing was how quiet the motel was, even though it's right by a major road. If I had been able to sleep, I would have slept like a baby with the quietness. Even the other patrons were quiet until around 5:45 PM, but I realized my room was right across from the break room which started breakfast at 9 AM. I would have probably had a different experience if my room was further away.
Once you know where to go, there's several businesses in the area off the main thoroughfare but don't expect much on the main thoroughfare except gas stations. I probably wouldn't stay here again for homecoming, but my experience wasn't as bad as I assumed it would be.
