Ebb Tide Family Motel, Kill Devil Hills

I'll start on a positive. The lady that checked us in was awesome. She was very nice. We were desperate for a room because we came down a day early and the hotel we had booked for the week was full so we had to stay somewhere else that first night. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't stay here with my young daughter. There was alot of partying going on there. Alot of 20ish people running around and getting in the pool drunk. It wasn't all 20ish people drunk either, their were a couple of 40ish people going to the pool and the lady was so drunk she could hardly stand up. Someone posted it was close to the beach, I don't know where they stayed at but we had to walk across the busy road up the driveway of a rental home and take a walkway by the rental home to get to the beach. Ok the room was small, musty, old and generally dirty feeling. The chairs in our room had cuts in the seats, the carpet was nasty looking. We got a double bed room thinking it was going to be queen beds like everywhere else. Not queen beds. They were small beds and really close to the wall so it made it extremely difficult to get out of bed without crawling over my hubby. We had some of the drunk 20ish people in the room next to ours. The walls are so thin I could hear them throughout the night thumping and yelling. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for a family. If you are one of those 20ish drunk people then this is the place for you.

If you are a mature adult, that cares about respect as a human being for others as well as yourself, then......... this place is not for you!! This place will put a roof over your head, and that is all I can find positive to say about it. I am 40yo male, that can withstand absolutely terrible conditions without complaining. But since I brought a family to feel safe and healthy by the end of the vacation. I cannot guarantee that your family will come home without some 'innocence' lost. Our room: had cat urine within two feet of the door. (still wet), and smell permeated the room. Allowed to move to a second room, and microwave was not cleaned for months, bathroom tiles were growing mold, and air conditioning unit, that was in the wall, had noticeable gaps in between, which seemed to allow a family of fruit flies to inhabit the room. Next door neighbors were a pack of what they probably referred themselves as, bohemian surfer dudes, were enjoying a video on gnarly wave catching. I only know this, because you could hear everything that they said, between the (whoaaaa!! and duuuude!!) Although there is a phone, the buttons did not depress, upon closer inspection, the phones are not real. Summary (as if you need more from me): if you are a twenty-something year old with low income, or proudly refer yourself as a 'redneck', 'trash', or have a basic disregard for your own safety. THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU!!
