Will definatly return!
Me and my husband have stayed at most every place in and around Nags Head (we live an hour away and this is typically a monthly weekend treat for us) and we found the Sandspur to be the best yet. Clean, spacious rooms; excellent, friendly staff; quiet and affordable; and, as an added bonus there are two rooms where pets are allowed! The owners are animal lovers themselves and very accomadating, the fact that they live on premises is even better, for them this just isn't a business, it's their home and that shows. They are proctective of their property and their guests, which I really love. Signs are posted everywhere that the pool and beach access is for guests of the Sandspur only, this I personally love because if I'm paying to stay and enjoy these privelges I don't think that every Tom, Dick, and Harry from accross/down the street should be trying to take advantage of this, if you want beach access there are plenty of free places around the area to use or you can find a place to stay that provides it! I do wish there was more parking available instead of only one spot allotted for each room, but if you see this place it is a very understandable rule. Simply put parking is slim at the beach period and the only way they would be able to add more parking at the Sandspur would be to remove the playground area, so this is one thing that you would just have to deal with. I had read other reviews that said that the rooms smelled musty, I live in NC, in the humid summer months if you close a room up for a day or two and don't have the a.c. set to subzero temps, you will have that smell happen no matter how clean the room is. This was an easy fix, we simply turned off the a.c. off, opened the windows and propped the door open while we unloaded our truck. 10-15 minutes later we were done unloading and closed up the windows and door and cut the a.c. back on, presto problem solved! We have to do the same thing at home when we get back, it's just a southern summer thing lol! The staff is so friendly and helpful, housekeeping is a good group of women that you can tell enjoy interacting with the guests. If you take you dog with you the rules are simple, keep your critter on a leash while outside (several reasons: they don't want anybody else or your pet to get hurt, they have outside kitties, and even if you have the best behaved pooch on earth and don't think they need a leash you are still putting them in a new environment and a leash is a simple and effective way to avoid a diasaster) and to be mindful of making sure you dog doesn't run out the door when housekeeping comes by; their attitude towards pets makes it a joy verus a chore to take them with you on vacation, so many other places are way more strict. Bottom line if you're looking for a clean, comfortable, feels like home only better, casual, and affordable place, where you are treated with respect as good as you give it to others, you simply can't beat the Sandspur!
