The Sandspur, Nags Head

My friends and I had a deep sea fishing trip planned out of Hatterus. Due to a potential hurricane, the trip was moved to Nags Head. I rented a room at Sandspur. A few days before the fishing trip a huge storm was due to hit Nags Head. The fishing trip was cancelled. I had to cancel my reservations but only had a few days notice to the hotel because of a HURRICANE. The Sandspur kept my $245 deposit and basically told me 'too bad'. Absoluelty worst hotel ever and worst customer service Ive ever experienced. I will make sure everyone I know will hear about how I was treated by the staff at Sandspur.

The wife, husband, and daughter who own the Sandspur are on PMS 365 days a year. I've been a long time customer for many years. I've been comming here because i had 4 small children. I stayed in cottage 5 so I always could keep an eye on my kids. The owners are always picking on not only my kids but everyone elses kids also. I've never talked back to them. But this year my kids are older and i spoke to the owners and they got angry at me. In the past 8 years when i go it dosent feel like im on vacation it feels as if im in prison. But this year i spoke up and i feel good about what I said. Also all the furniture in almost all cottages are very old and discusting. They have a smell of mold And sweat. We have to cover the furniture with sheets so we could use them. This is the absolute last trip i will ever spend at the Sandspur! P.S. if you would like to spend your week of vacation in prison you should really visit the Sandspur. Also if you enjoy having the acompany of police every single night the police are there waiting for you. ENJOY!

I stayed at the Sandspur for a week every summer for 12 years. More members of the family started joining in on our vacation and we outgrew the Sandspur. This year my family decided to go down for the week of Memorial Day which was the just the 4 of us but we invited my sister's family of 4 to go as well for the weekend. We got a 2 bedroom cottage and it was perfect. No this place is not high frills but it also doesn't bust your budget to stay. The owners are great and just want their property to be respected. I can assure you that as long as you follow the rules for occupancy and parking and do not trash the place or leave windows/doors open while the air conditioner is on you will not be bothered. For every 4 people that a room can hold they allow parking for 1 vehicle. For example our cottage had an occupancy of 8, therefore we had 2 alotted spaces. They are directly on the ocean and have a pool as well as a playground for children. There are stores, restaurants and ice cream shops all within walking distance. We loved our stay and can't wait to come back again!!

We have been coming to Nags Head for over 25 years, and we love it! About 6 years ago, the place we always stayed was sold and we were devastated, where would we stay, that would accommodate 8 ladies and not cost a fortune? Our prayers were answered when we found the Sandspur! It was actually better then where had been staying, more room and the perfect location. Every year the same families come down and it's like a mini reunion! Friendships have been made and it's all because of the Sandspur! If anything happens, Ricky and Susan are right on it, and they do their utmost to make sure everything runs smooth. We LOVE the Sandspur, it's the perfect place for our family vacation, and we hope that it will continue for many years to come.

This was our first stay at this particular motel and we had an absolutely wonderful time. We arrived late Saturday night, after the office had closed, and were able to get into our unit that night. All we had to do was call ahead to make special arrangements. The people down in the office were really helpful and understanding of our tight schedule. The price wasn't bad at all. When I started looking for places to stay, I was just in awe at how much places were. The Sandspur fit our budget perfectly!! The maid came in every day and made up our beds, took out our trash, etc. We were right over the walkway from the ocean. About halfway thru our stay, the AC broke and the folks down in the office went to three different places before they found one to go in the unit. They were real fast about changing it out. The owner joked that she had COPD and that if she couldn't live without an AC, she wasn't going to make anyone else do it either. I really appreciated her sense of humor. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I have found my vacation spot and will continue to go down to the Sandspur from now on. Our vacation couldn't have gotten any better!!!

The people that run this place are rude! I should have trusted my first instinct when I spoke with them over the phone. They really act like they haven't got the time to speak with you - let alone help you book a vacation at their hotel. Our efficiency was DIRTY. and we are not hard to please - we always stay at older hotels/cottages etc because we like the feel and character of them. But this place was rotten and it doesn't help that it felt like we were being watched by the staff the entire time. WE had 2 friends of ours, a couple that was staying in Kitty Hawk, drive to where we were to visit and she came outside yelling at them!!Awful experience

I have stayed at the Sandspur for years now and have had nothing but positive experiences while there. The staff is friendly and accommodating- in fact, on more than one occasion, they went out of their way to make sure that my family and I were having a good time while down. My husband is a smoker, and with the recent push nationally for facilities of this kind to go smoke-free, it was nice to be able to book the motel without fear that he was going to have to go outside or walk down the street. The cleaning staff is very thorough in their cleaning and inspecting of every unit- we were actually surprised to learn that the renters before us were smokers. We wouldn't have been able to tell otherwise. My family and I like to enjoy our vacation every year. With recent economic times like they are- we've had to tighten our belts a lot. I knew when I booked with the Sandspur that we wouldn't be getting worked over like we would have, had we rented with a big realty company. The Sandspur was well worth the money!

Staying at the Sandspur will ruin your vacation. I have never met more awful, horrible, angry, people (SUSAN). They screamed at us like we were children being scolded because we didnt close the door quick enough when the ac was on, because they thought we tracked sand into the room and because we parked in the wrong spot (and I mean SCREAMED) They are angry people that need anger management but that wasnt the worst of it, the units were dirty, there were bugs. The prices were high and they charge a 50.00 cleaning fee, so you can have a dirty room. Stay far away from the place if you want to enjoy your vacation.

THE OWNERS ARE RUDE AND ACT LIKE THEY ARE BEING PUT OUT. THERE WERE BUGS AND MICE IN THE COTTAGES. WHEN WE ARRIVED THE COTTAGE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. I HAVE ALLERGIES SO I TURNED ON THE AC AND OPENED THE DOOR TO LET SOME FRESH AIR IN. THE OWNER SCREAMED AT ME THAT THIS WAS NOT ALLOWED. I WILL NEVER RETURN.

WE HAD BEEN COMING FOR YEARS BUT NEVER AGAIN. THEY TREAT YOU LIKE THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOR. VERY RUDE. 2008 WE SAW TWO MICE AND SEVERAL BUGS IN THE COTTAGES. MY EXTENDED FAMILY STAYED IN SEVERAL AND THEY SAW THE SAME. THE COTTAGE SMELLED OF SMOKE AND MOLD. MY FAMILY WILL NEVER GO AGAIN.
