My family and I have been coming to the outer banks since the early 80's. After years of trial and error pertaining to hotels in the area we came across Colony IV about 6 years ago. We stay there about four times a year and have never had a bad experience. The hotel is clean and the staff are excellent. Very family friendly and affordable. Safe environment, manager walks the grounds all day long, nice year round pool, hot tub, bath and body works toiletries, pleanty of dependable breakfast options every morning. They go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Close to everything, walking distance to Stop n Shop convenience store and deli. Life guarded beach. You can't see the ocean from the ground floors, but the dune system is great protection for the hotel grounds which makes sense if you look at some of the others around there. My favorite place to stay in the OBX.
This hotel was very clean. We loved the option of the jacuzzi and indoor pool to get out of inclimate weather or too much sun. The outdoor pool was also great. The continental breakfast was very basic, but sufficient. The rooms were a good size but no frills. It was a bit disappointing not being able to see the beach from the lower level floors, , but we were quite happy being able to walk out of our room down to the beach. The hotel had a lovely pavilion on top of the dune with a board walk to the beach. There was also a shower station on the boardwalk to rinse off when returning from the beach. We had a great time at this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
The only downside to this hotel is the limited beach views... only the 4th floor of one building can see the beach, we were on the third floor and had a nice ocean view, but you couldn't see the surf because of the large sand dune. It kind of gave a ship-board feel without the rocking
The hotel is elegant with plantation shutters on the windows and very up-to-date decor. They were installing security cameras in the hallways while we ere there, but it seemed like a safe and comfortable environment.
From driving around the area, it looked like the best hotel in that area.
This place was a complete surprise. We were staying last minute for the weekend on business and were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room, it's cleanliness and the NICE staff. The heated pools were great and so was the whirlpool tub. If we ever return with the need for a hotel (most times we stay in a house) we will definitely utilize Colony IV's accomodations.
I am a minister so I do quite a bit of travel for my work. This time I took my family and after we finished our scheduled meetings in Windsor, NC, we decided to take some time off in Kill Devil Hills, NC. I checked out several places of lodging and this place was simply the best. The pools were awesome, the rooms large and clean; and the beach was just a 30 second walk. The only let down was the breakfast in the morning. The food was good but there wasn't a whole lot of room to sit. So, we had to stand while eating. But we will return for our next vacation. The staff was super nice. My kid had so much fun that he didn't want to leave. I would highly reccomend this establishment for any family! The prices were in line with the other hotels in the area; but The Colony IV beat them all.
This was the last hotel that we looked at in the Kill Devil Hills/ Nags Head area. We did not book a room ahead of the trip so we had to search around for hours that morning until we came across this hotel. From the moment we walked in the door we knew that we had found a place that we could stay comfortably in and enjoy our time there. The staff was wonderful...very friendly and kind. The room was very clean (we had visited some @ other hotels and found them to be almost unbearable) and affordable. I will definately stay @ this hotel in the future. Also, it was within a reasonable distance to about everything that we wanted to visit or do while in the outer banks. I was impressed and will be back! We had a small child with us as well and she enjoyed herself as well.
The pool is very nice. The breakfest area offers good food. Everything is very convenient for families. The walk to the beach ias only about a minute walk. And if you want a good view you can go to the balcony.
The situation with an extremely tiny sink outside of a teeny bathroom being right at the door to the room was awkward but that is my only complaint. The place was clean and nice. With kids, it is important for the room to be clean because they are touching everything and lying on the floor/bedspreads. The place was good. We would stay there again. The pool areas were really great. The breakfast area was super. The staff was friendly.
My fiance and I stayed here during Valentines day. She proposed to me that night in their gazebo. It was a much bigger room than I was expecting due to the price. Anytime I think of staying anywhere else at Nags Head, I always end up wanting to go back to The Colony IV. The price is great and the quality exceeds that. In this day in time, that is a rare combination.
I WAS LOOKING FOR A CLEAN FACILITY, FOR A LAST MINUTE WEEKEND GETAWAY FOR MY FAMILY OF 3.(AUG 07) THE ROOM WAS LARGER THAN EXPECTED. THE BEACH WAS GREAT AND THE POOLS WERE A NICE BREAK FROM THE HOT HOT DAY. FAMILY ATMOSPHERE. FREE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST WAS A SURPRISE WITH A DECENT SELECTION. I PLAN TO GO BACK NEXT YEAR IF NOT AGAIN THIS FALL. THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND ACCOMODATING.
