by the time i hit Istanbul i had been traveling for 5 months and had slept in huts, hostels, buses, trains, a few decent mid-level hotels and many couches. The Metropolis was recommended to me by a friend of a friend and i had meant to stay for only 2 or 3 days but was so pleased that i ended up staying for 7 (maybe even 8, i lost track).
i arrived from Georgia on a 24 hour bus ride and found the beds to be so comfortable that i slept for almost 2 days. the showers always have hot water and aren't on timers, and if you hang out in the lounge or on the roof in the evening you'll find that it's filled with good people/great stories. both the hostel and restaurant are located on the charming cobble-stone streets of Sultanahmet(great location, near the blue mosque) and the staff were awesome (the manager is a rascal but in the best way). also a plus for solo travelers, if you're in a dorm room they do their best to match your background to the others in the room, makes for really easy conversation.
i'd recommend this place any day.
