Luckily, we're up to the challenge. Our common area is by far the coolest and funkiest around. Based in what used to be a pub, it has often been described as a 'technicolour explosion' you'll just have to see to believe. All we know is that our common room is simply awesome. The laidback atmosphere makes it easy to meet other travellers. Your only trouble will be convincing yourself to get out there and see the sights when there's so much to do here! It's comfy, it's cosy. It's a great place to socialise with new friends and drink a cold beer from our bar (which sells quite the variety of international beer favourites and a collection of cocktail concoctions) while warming up in front of our fireplace. In the summer, one of the best places to be is our garden. There are loads of plants, and it's a great place for a chat or a BBQ, or even to test your skills on our basketball game. At night it's lit up by all sorts of different lights, making the atmosphere really cool.Need a snack or forget something? It's no problem. We sell travel essentials and a selection of crisps as well as other snacks to feed you - that is if you are still hungry after pigging out at our free nightly snack buffet! So what kind of rooms do we have to offer? At Birmingham Central, we have it all. We have private singles, twin and triple rooms which are with tea and coffee making facilities, TVs and DVD players as well as books and a selection from our movie library. We also have dorm rooms that hold between four and eight people. Most dorm rooms have lockers, a sink and shower but toilet facilities are shared. New last May: Our eight bed POD dorm! It adds a new level of privacy to backpacking. Based on the Japanese capsule design, each POD has a 360 degree private reading light, locker, extra comfy mattress, and curtain so you can have the utmost privacy if that's what you are looking for. But book early if you want to secure one of these beds - they sell like hotcakes. At BCB, we have something for everyone.Do you want to stay somewhere that really is centrally located in the city because you don't want to pay for transport? That's smart thinking. Who wants to lug their belongings far distances across town when you first arrive? No one, of course. Not to mention the cost of taking taxis and buses (that can really add up). When we say we are centrally located, we mean it!Check out how close we are to the following: 1 minute walk to the National Express Coach Station1 minute walk to Barfly1 minute walk to the bus to the NEC and Birmingham Airport3 minute walk to Custard Factory5 minute walk to the Bull Ring and Markets5 minute walk to Moor Street Train Station8 minute walk to New Street Train Station8 minute walk to Arcadian and the Gay Quarter10 minute walk to Carling Academy10 minute walk to the Mega Bus stop20 minute walk to Broad Street, the canals and the NIACheck-in time is from 2pm onwards. Best hostel in Europe
By ,
I have been to many hostels and budget hotels over the past few years around Europe and I have to say this is my fav. I have been here a few times now and I always feel so welcome. The staff are super friendly and helpful, there is so much going on in th common room for th gusts. It is nice to see the staff actually take an interest and they are great at helping with things to do within Birmingham. Even if you do not like BIrmingham this hostel is an attraction within itself. I would suggest people come just for a night to relax and meet new people.

Don't get stuck in the second building
By ,
First, don't go to Birmingham. The city itself is disgusting and not worth the visit. If you must go to Birmingham, this hostel may be one of the best, but it is not in a good part of town and be warned that rooms 11-17 are in a different building that is a couple blocks down the street. The room itself was nice, but in the second building there is NO INTERNET access. Further, it was very loud next to the industrial park that was loading and unloading all day, and we didn't feel safe walking through the area at night to get to the main building where the bar and internet was located. We also had annoying people in the room next to us who did not observe the posted quiet hours, and the door to the room did not block the sound from the hallway at all (though we can't fault the hostel too much for the poor manners of its other guests). Fortunately, they had a good selection of DVDs available for free and a player in our room. So even though we were stuck in our room with no internet, we had a movie to watch. We did try the bar in the main building, but the selection was extremely limited. You also have to go to the main building for breakfast, which was nothing more than toast and bad coffee. We didn't expect much more than that for the price we paid, but if you're banking on the free breakfast to get you through the day, prepare to be disappointed. The bathrooms were fine as far as cleanliness, but they left the window open so several bugs got in and made it unpleasant to shower with some freakish large insects flying about. In short, skip this city altogether if you can. If you have to be in Birmingham, then only stay here if you want the dorms in the main building, or don't care about no internet access and a sketchy part of town to walk through for the second building.

Great value for money
By ,
I ended up stuck in Birmingham last month when my train wouldn't carry on to my destination. Panicked and I asked the people at the train station for somewhere close and cheap I could stay. I was told about this place. It was only a 10 minute walk from the station. The area is industrial but it is in the city centre and very easy to get to. From when you first walk into this place until when you leave the staff are there to take care of you. It is so bright and crazy looking you don't get bored just looking around and they give you so much for what you pay. £15 included my sheets, towel, breakfast, evening snack (proper pizza ) it was a movie night. I haven't been a hostel in a while but this way more than what I remember them to be like. Though I don't think I will make a habit of staying in hostels, I would definitely stay in this one again and highly recommend it to anyone.

Loved the POD Beds
By ,
Had a nice stay at this hostel. I stayed in their POD beds which was great. Much nicer than the ones I had stayed in London. THey had a reading light, curtains and a very comfy bed. They told me they are new and waiting a few weeks for drop down TVs and IPOD stations which will be cool. The staff were nice and helpful, the common room had lots to do with movies, a large TV, game stations, books etc. You could cook your own foods also in the kitchen. The hostel made a BBQ, I think it might of been the first sun they had seen for some months lol. One downside is that I did not find much to do in BIrmingham for a week, it is ok for a few days, the hostel made up for the final three days of just relaxing with movies so worth thinking about if you plan of backpacking here for more than four days. I would recommend this hostel to anyone.

Five star hostel
I really liked the common room, the movies, cinema, and the games they had, wii and playstation. The staff are very nice and helpful. The rooms are clean and very bright. The only dislike is the area. But it is not awful just very industrial.

Great place
By ,
Very warm welcome from the staff. They gave great advice on what to do in Birmingham and the UK. The hostel is nice and clean, very bright with lots to do there. They have a movie theatre within the common room, a big projector screen, they have the game things (sorry not a fan of them) nintendo etc. Lots of books to read. The hostel is only a few seconds walk from the National Express Coach station for Birmingham which is a huge plus. They have a self service kitchen with more facilities than I have seen in any other hostel. Oven, Microwaves, indoor BBQ grill, slow cooker, toasters, very good.

My first hostel experience
By ,
This was my first experience with a hostel, and have since been to several around the UK. Birmingham Central was by far the best of the hostels. They had a nice set up, lots of useful information on what to do and directions around Birmingham. The common room had games, nintendo, xbox, DVDs its own little cinema. The staff were nice. It has a homely feel to it, even a hostel pet a west highland terrier called Rainy. I would suggest this place to anyone.

OK

Liked: central location, comfortable beds, free internet. Disliked: VERY noisy area, the hostel street felt unsafe, the room was crowded and had a bed more than advertised.
