Akademika Bed & Breakfast, Urbana

As stated by other reviews, this is a the best lodging in Illinois. I recommend it. BTW, anyone who rates this B&B with less than 5 stars is someone who has not been offered accommodation in this inn. Everything is more than perfect...

We loved this B&B . We loved the location and the lovely morning breakfast. We loved the fact that Akademika is a house built in 1924, nicely upgraded by Gloria and her husband to give it a lot of character. We attended a seminar that was held in the Illini Union. From Akademika, everything was in walking distance and the B&B itself is on campus. Very nice and I highly recommend it for anyone doing business in Urbana Champaign. We only took public transportation to the mall, but mostly walked to other things which were very nearby. Don’t miss the Argentinean breakfast which was definitely the highlight of our trip. You may find inexpensive lodging in U-C but nothing can be compared to this B&B. Akademika is within walking distance of everything even cheap restaurant on campus. Nevertheless, after eating Gloria's breakfast in the morning I can assure you that you won't feel hungry until dinner time. The best B&B in Illinois and highly recommended.

This is one B&B that you can trust over and over again to be nothing but top notch and very clean. My family always stays here; it is a very friendly place with excellent breakfast. It is right in the heart of campus so that there is no need for taxis. Also, it is in the most expensive part of town and where all high class U of I professors live. At night, the UC town is not very safe for visitors, but fortunately this B&B is in the safe part of town. And the breakfast...WOW! exquisite. Because we uphold the highest standards of cleanliness is that we recommend Akademika. BTW, Gloria is the nicest person we have ever met. She has a great sense of humor, and it is always looking after her guests!

This B&B is great! The owner is pleasant, courteous, friendly, and helpful. All the rooms are awesome. I had stayed in all of them already including the suite and it is always more than I could have expected.A terrific place to stay for any age group. Wonderful location for University of Illinois visitors. Everyone in the house (Gloria, her husband and her beautiful daughter) goes above an beyond to please Akademika guests. I have stayed at this B&B several times and it looks like it gets better with time. I never had to complain about anything. Everyone is so friendly and hospitable. Highly recommended. If you want to know about the breakfast read other reviews posted in this page. It is a banquet.Love it! Surprisingly, I just managed to secure a room during Homecoming weekend when everything is booked in town This (as the people from the Visitors Bureau said) is the best kept secret in UC area.

I visited early in the summer and I needed a place closed to campus. Akademika was only 3 blocks from my meeting venue, breakfast was great and the host was incredible helpful. Beautiful neigborhood, very quiet, and away from the sororities and fraternities. I recommend it!

I spent hours online before my visit to the Univ of IL trying to find a good hotel. I had some hesitations with this property because I have not been in B&Bs before. But...the reviews for this place convinced me to stay there. Absolutely worth it! Breakfast was delicious, the place was immaculate; the rooms were spacious and with 3 big windows each with a lot of sunlight, they were also nicely decorated. Beds had memory foam mattresses and were comfortable. I had a complimentary computer in my room with WIFI. If it's raining, you can borrow umbrellas. There are a handful of other B&Bs in the Urbana/Champaign area but this is the only B&B in a safe part of town. I stayed during a busy week with two other university professors. One was staying in a standard room and the other in the suite. They mentioned to me during breakfast time that they have been regulars of Akademika for few years. They said that this B&B was not only the closest on campus but also the only one dos not keep it crowded. According to them, they never saw more than 3 people at once (with one staying in the suite). They stated that it is the only one with this kind of breakfast too. This B&B is 6-7minute walk to the Illini Union. Overall, I was really impressed by the quality of this B&B and the service received. I would definitely stay again. I would recommend it to singles and couples. The hospitality is amazing. Gloria, the owner, is really nice to everybody, but please remember taking your shoes off before entering this B&B.

Beautiful place, great stay, nice people, delicious and abundant breakfast...Before making reservation at this B&B, my U of I daughter managed to put me in contact with some parents of her friends who had stayed in Akademika more than once. I've never been in any B&B in US before and I did not know what to expect. After sending a message to these parents who have stayed at Akademika I was overwhelmed by all their comments. They were all very positive. I have traveled all over Europe, and all bed and breakfast owners expect for their guests to comply with some rules. Nevertheless, everybody commented about the hospitality of Gloria, the owner of this B&B. Everybody said that she would go the extra mile to do something for each one of her guests. One guest even told me that last year, when her son got an allergic reaction to an antibiotic, it was Gloria the person who took him to the hospital and stayed with him all night until he got better. She did not even charged him for the gas to the hospital. That comment did it for me, nothing else could outweigh that. After reading the positive comments, we made reservation during a busy weekend at UC. We were really impressed by the hospitality at Akademika, and everything that came along with it. The place was spotless and the breakfast was really, really good. My bed was comfortable and had a memory foam mattress. I have visited Urbana/Champaign at least twice a month since my daughter moved into her dorm (Fall 2008). I know a lot about lodging in Urbana/Champaign; it is really bad. You may find lower prices but you end up spending the money that you have saved in lodging in the clinic. I got bed bugs in an U-C hotel. Nothing can be comparable with this B&B, it is fantastic. Highly reccommended.

Do not believe everything reviews say about Akademika, it is twice as good. Great place, fantastic hospitality, nice owners, the best breakfast. I was treated like a king. Highly recommended.

If you read the other reviews on this site then you know what to expect. I came here for my son's graduation and while I can't say Urbana-Champaign is a very exciting place to be (my son says it needs a theme park) I found the inn to be located very near the graduation ceremony and near the university campus. I only really expected a bagel and coffee for breakfast but I was pleasantly surprised at the array that was put out my first morning. I slept well and the place was very quiet so I cannot complain. Akademika calls itself a bed and breakfast, and both the bed and the breakfast were great.

Great accommodation, great host, immaculate. nothing better in town. I stayed in this B&B many times, there is never more than 2 people sharing a bathroom. The suite is incredible amazing. I stayed in this B&B on the same week that the singer Jarren C was singing. The singer requested accommodation at this B&B because it was highly recommended to her and she had nothing but compliments about this place. I was stayed during the week that Simon Smith (Hollywood director) was staying in the suite. There are always very important visitors in this place. Anyone that says otherwise is a disgruntle. To any traveler, do not read the bad reviews about this place, it is coming from someone that was probably not accepted as a guest by the owner.
