would never ever book here again opened the door and was overwhelmed buy a musty damp oder tried to open windows at night when we returned from the park late that night only to find that all the handles to to windows were removed and the bathroom window was nailed shut why i ask would this be done .. Then pulled the covers back to go to bed and there were hairs on the pillows what a nightmare this place is old outdated and just gross and creepy. If u have allergies rm/apt 38 will send u into overdrive i still havent recovered.
LIKES: I liked the location and the outside looked charming. I like that most of the staff would greet you with a friendly 'Hello'!. I liked the price.
DISLIKES: We got a "suite" in one of the converted houses. I think it was a former basement, but converted to a room and it walked out to a patio. Upon arriving at the "suite" entrance, we couldn't tell if it was our room or not because the room number was missing. There was a small table in chairs, which was a nice touch, but an ash-tray had old cigarette butts in it. Upon entering the room, there was a small old vinyl floor, then all green old carpeting - though it looked clean enough. Until you went by the bathroom, where it looked like a cigarette burn that turned into a burnt, worn down foot long area of little rug, probably from a bad "clean up". When we walked in the bathroom, the tub faucet was on and it wouldn't turn off! We had to go tell them and they told us it was already supposed to be fixed! The air conditioner was old but worked. There was old converted lanterns for lights. The walls were paneling, and "updated" with pink strokes of paint - they painted around all the pictures and mirror on the walls! We only noticed because we saw a blank, white wall where a small picture once was. The floor was bumpy and crooked under the rug - the cabinet the TV was sitting on was lopsided. There was a thermostat but nothing happened when you touched it. They offered basic, cheap towels and bedding, and only gave you 2 thin tiny pieces of hand soap - no shower gel like most places would give you. There was a small fridge and a small antique microwave that almost fell off when we tried opening it- though it DID work. The TV was old, unlike the flat screen tv they show in their photos. It looks like some rooms are updated and some aren't - if you DO go here, maybe you need to ask for an updated room!
Another issue: Any lodging place nowadays is really strict when it comes to canceling rooms and getting refunds - they either don't offer refunds/exchanges OR they have a timeline and if you don't call to cancel beforehand, you get stuck paying for the room/nights even if you can't stay there.
I think with a "Family-owned, private motel" they would be MORE caring and willing to help you out if an emergency arises... well an emergency DID arise, and they wouldn't budge on charging us the full motel stay. My parents were supposed to meet us there, but there was a horrible storm the night before and my dad's job refused to let him go home (electric company). My mom called to explain the situation and the woman on the phone said it was no problem and understood the circumstance. My husband and I lived closer to Hershey, so we decided to go for one night, instead of two.
When we got there, we had to wait for someone at the desk. The guy came, half paying attention to us while he talked on his phone. I explained the situation and said my mom had called and said we wouldn't be charged. He rudely said "Well, SHE'S not in charge of the front office! Your mom WILL BE charged for the nights".
I guess he is the son of the "loving grandmother" and now the owner. My mom called back again but they said the credit card was already charged and they couldn't do anything.
I do have to say that the one young lady who worked at the front desk was much nicer and friendlier than the owner. I guess that can go in the "LIKE" section above.
I will not be staying here - it wasn't that inexpensive, but it DID have that "cheap motel" feeling to it, at least the "suite" I stayed in, which I think might be only one in a few of their UN-updated rooms.
So, if you keep your reservation and get an "updated" room, your stay might be decent enough for the price. But don't hold your breath or expect much from this place. It's just a place to sleep.
It did seem clean and there were no bugs! Just needed updating and maybe a more caring owner.
Sure-the place is old--but its very clean and charming. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. It was cleaner than some big name hotels Ive stayed at. Motel is a short walk from Hershey Park and restraunts and bars in town. We had a great stay and will stay there every time we are in Hershey.
ok soo i stayed there with my youth group and the electric kept going out and also when my friend and i took a shower we both felt like we were being watched.then we all finally went to sleep.and about 3 or 4 of us dreamed about fire.so we all ended up waking up around the same time in the middle of the night. and we were all freaked out so we left.and when we got in the van and left i happened to look back and i couldve sworn i saw a ball of fire.
For the price I liked the hotel, across the street we could have paid over $200 a night! When we arrived our room was not ready so we were upgraded to an apartment with a kitchen and a very nice patio seating area.
Check in was a little hairy, the lady checking us in came after 5 minutes of waiting and told us we interrupted her dinner and then had a fit because our rate was not noted in the book. I am sure the dinner comment was in jest, but the whole check in was a little strange.
Afterward was smooth sailing. The rooms are adorable and very roomy! Clean and comfortable. The grounds are well kept, with the family members and staff both paying attention to every little detail... Dusting the lights on our patio, painting here and there and just saying hi. Definately has a family feel. The hotel guests were just as friendly.
Comfortable walking distance to Hershey Park. I would not recommend the walk though, if you have a large group or strollers. There is a crossing that you cannot avoid that is in the road and along a hidden curve which can be scary and dangerous.
The private outdoor pool was nice. Cookies and coffee available all day. Yes there is a train track behind the hotel but it does not run all night and it is not bothersome if you can handle 2 minutes of noise. With the air conditioner running you can hardly hear a thing.
The hotel was great. We would return!
My son and i both had a lovely time we love to walk so that walking distance to the park was just fine for us! Dave was so nice and the staff was friendly. They also have good cookies downstairs and coffee!
Home away from home! I can't say enough. Mary is the sweetest lady you will ever meet. She is the highlight of my stay! We started staying here over 15 years ago because we wanted to be able to walk to Hershey Park. We have not stayed anyplace in Hershey since. We go to Spring time in the park and Christmas in the Park every year. It is only a 10 or 15 minute walk to the park. We have stayed in both the motel and several of the apartments depending on how many of us there are. I can only think of two problems over all those years, both were minor and both were fixed as soon as we called. Everything is very clean and well kept. It is not a brand new motel but if you are looking for clean, friendly and caring this is it! After 15 years the train is just part of the stay! Rates are excellent. We were there in April and our reservations are already made for April.
