Arkansas Valley Adventures, Buena Vista

I've had several wonderful rafting experiences over the past few years with other companies, but I will never book with this company again. I booked an advanced rafting trip on Clear Creek with AVA a couple of weeks ago. When we showed up for the trip on Saturday, our reservation had been changed. The person responsible for booking had changed the date of our reservation (so they were not even anticipating our arrival) but more importantly, they had changed our reservation from the advanced trip (half-day, class 4 and 5) to the intermediate trip (2 hours, class 3 and 4). When I asked the staff what had happened to the reservation (with the accurate confirmation in hand) they were incredibly rude to me. Apparently the company had discontinued the advanced trip, but allowed me to register and pay for the trip and did not call or notify me in any way about the change. We participated in the intermediate trip and it was fine but vastly different from the advanced trips I have taken with other companies in the past. Additionally, the guide was rude and knew nothing about the area. After completing the trip, I inquired about some sort of refund for the mix up and failure to notify me of the change. The company was willing to refund the difference in price between the two trips (how generous!) - but the intermediate trip, which was 2 hours shorter and much less fun, was only about 20% less expensive. Again the staff was rude and not willing to take any responsibility for the trouble. I feel like I am pretty forgiving when things like this happen - people make mistakes and I understand that - but the staff and guides did not make any attempt to rectify or even apologize for the mistake and instead made me feel like I was the one who did something wrong. I am very disappointed with the service provided by this company and highly recommend using someone else for your rafting trip.
