Homewood Suites Ontario-Rancho Cucamonga, Rancho Cucamonga

First, the good: The room was very nice, and the separate sleeping room is very convenient so that my early-riser husband doesn't wake me. Housekeeping was good, but not exceptional. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful with such things as local directions. Location is convenient to Ontario Airport and is adjacent to Ontario Mills Mall. Holiday bell decorations added to the room doors was a cute touch. Decor is nice, and I liked having lots of pillows. Now, the bad: Housekeeping, as mentioned, was ok, with the exception of things like disposable coffee cups and pizza box being left after the room was cleaned. The only vending area is the "market" by the front desk, and some of those items are outrageously priced. The snack items were ok, but $5 for a travel-size shampoo and $11 for a bottle of store-brand sunscreen?! That's a little rough in these days of heightened airport security. Breakfast is served from 6:30-9:30am weekdays, and 7:30-10:30 weekends. We were there over Thanksgiving. Most hotels serve breakfast at weekend hours on holidays. Homewood Suites did not, so plan accordingly. Now, the worse: My husband travels constantly and is a Hilton Diamond member (Homewood Suites is a Hilton property). Late Friday night, he called the front desk to request a late check-out on Saturday, since we weren't actually leaving town until late in the day. We were given a 1:00pm check-out, but apparently that information wasn't forwarded to anyone on the day shift. Not one, but two different Housekeeping managers knocked on our door wanting to know how soon we were leaving. At 11:45am, we started carrying our bags to the car, which was going to take two trips to get everything out of the room. We put the first bags into the car and, when we tried to re-enter the hotel's back entrance, we found that our key card had already been de-programmed. We had to walk around to the front of the hotel and have the front desk staff reprogram the card so that we could get back into our room. She was very apologetic and emphasized that we were welcome to stay until the 1:00 check-out time, but by then we had gotten the hint! Overall, we would stay at Homewood again, but we would make certain that our plans accommodated theirs, and not vice versa.
