10 stars
By G, 4/28/12
I recently accompanied a group of scouts to Salem, MA during school vacation. I booked a dozen rooms for the kids and adults at the Clipper Ship Inn. The rooms were spacious and clean. Short distance to the attractions. The suites worked great for our group. Can't say enough positive things about the front desk staff and cleaning staff. In summary, we had a great time and a large part of it was due to the Clipper Ship Inn accomodations. Thank you and hope to be back soon!

had to call the cops
By Teddi Chalmers, 10/23/11
this place is not guide dog friendly, after spending the night the next morning the owner of the hotel tried to charge us extra for having a guide dog in the room, when we showed her the A.D.A laws which she refused to read because she did not agree that blind people had rights, my husband read them out loud to her. She said that if the guide dog is not a pet then it's a person and she would have to charge us for having an extra person in the room. I called the guide dog school and had them talk to her she hung up on them the police came and they told her she did not have the right to charge us so she threw us out.

We loved it and recommend it highly!
By Deeann, 6/28/11
It was clean, neat, pleasant, friendly, convenient, roomy, and reasonable. We enjoyed our stay. It's a family atmosphere. We hope to return to the Boston area and stay at the Clipper Ship Inn again. It had everything we needed. We appreciated the microwave and refrigerator. The maid service was excellent. The beds were comfortable. We felt very secure at the Clipper Ship Inn. The staff was friendly and gave us maps and directions to Salem. There was nothing I disliked.

Great Motel Highly recommended!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/22/09
I just stayed there for a week. I had the most wonderful time. These post below are false and unfounded. I don't understand how people can get away with writing such false statements. My week stay I got to know the staff and they were all very helpful and friendly. My room was spacious and extremely clean. I would recommend the Clipper Ship to all my friends. My family and I had a wonderful stay there without any problems.

Basic and clean
By Danpaine, 10/27/08
I don't see why this motel is so maligned in the many reviews I read prior to our stay this past weekend. Is it a new place? No. Is it a first-class facility? No. It is not fancy and it's very basic in decoration. It's an older place. But our room was very clean and the staff was helpful and responsive. There was a weird incident with one of the front desk staff involving the fact that someone was leaving spent cigarette butts on the floor above us, but it's likely the clerk was just venting about it - we were in Room 132, a suite, and never even ventured to the 2nd floor during our entire stay. Maybe she was just in a bad mood? The location of the motel is 'ok,' overall. If you want to be in the middle of the action in Salem, this place is not for you. However, it's much cheaper than those places that are. There's a pub/restaurant, a Dunkin Donuts, a pizza joint and a liquor store within a five minute walk, which was very handy. At the front desk they gave us a number of $3 Dunkin Donuts gift cards to make up for their lack of a breakfast, which was great. We walked downtown, which took us about 20 minutes, an easy walk. Cab service was prompt and handy and $$ reasonable for night trips into town and back. So, for those who just want a clean basic place to hang your hat while touring Salem, go for it. If you want turn-down service and mints on the pillows and plush carpet and room service, look elsewhere.

Very bad hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/08
This hotel is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in in a long time. The room was a suite (and priced like one!) -- but it was very poorly laid out, so the extra space did us no good, and the beds were uncomfortable. The room did not seem clean. The neighborhood was very marginal and made me feel unsafe, particularly given the poor locks on the hotel room doors that opened straight to the outside. I could not get over how expensive a hotel of such poor quality could be. And the hotel staff was misleading about how close the hotel was to downtown and attractions when I called to make the reservation. It's really not within easy walking distance of Salem attractions (It's a mile or more from these) -- and you most likely wouldn't want to walk through that neighborhood (particularly after dark) anyway. Stay anywhere else in Salem but here. And if you want to save money, stay in the next town rather than at the Clipper Ship, since you'll need to drive to the Salem attractions anyway.

never again
By t.dog, 6/13/08
I think when you have a guest in your hotel one they should be treated like a guest not like trash. The managment is overly rude and dis pleasent their are cats that are locked inside a room. This hotel would be the last place i would ever want to stay at again

Stinky in Every Sense of the word
By JoanneM, 5/10/08
The room was very dirty - dust bunnies and more under the beds, drawers in bureaus were dirty (I washed them before putting any clothes in), old cigarette smell, windows very hard to open, noisy neighbors all around, commuter rail train behind Inn, beds and pillows lumpy, etc. And, if that wasn't all bad enough, the owner/manager was rude and probably certifiable, and all the staff unpleasant. Sleep in your car rather than HERE.

I'll be back...again...
By Marek, 9/28/07
I visit Salem Mass. at least once a year, every year for past twelve years. You do the math. Clipper Ship Inn. i my choice for all this years. This is not a hotel. Clipper Ship Inn. is a comfortable an clean motel with a great location close to historic Salem, atractions, restaurants andshopping. It is also a walking distance from the train for all those who still travel the old good way. Clipper Ship Inn is giving you a great deal for the money. Highly recommended for everybody. Great atmosfere and memories, no disappointments!

Not bad at all
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/21/07
The close proximity to historic Salem was the main reason we stayed here. It's less than a mile walk to the Salem Common and reasonably priced. The surrounding area is run down but that's not their fault and we had no problems during our stay. Having a few cats roaming the grounds was nice and they are friendly and have collars.( They are pets not feral) All in all I won't be against going back next time we are in town. This was our 4th trip to Salem.
