Black Bear Inn B & B, South Lake Tahoe

Ended up not staying here. I understand late notice cancellation policies, but when I had to cancel on the day of our reservation due to illness, I was told that yes, I could still use the gift certificate at a later date. When I tried to reserve a room later, they didn't honor the gift certificate. The biggest disappointment was that they reversed what I was told on the phone. Will not patronize the business now.

The Inn is situated away from the lake but has high quality rooms and amenities. I wish we could say the same for the staff at the Inn. We had a horrible experience. The staff was rude and was completely inappropriate towards us. The staff member had a temper which was out of control. They raised their voice several times. We enjoyed the other hotels around the lake and had high hopes for the Black Bear Inn. However this Inn was the worst part of our trip due to the offensive staff. Beware!

Black Bear Inn is a wonderful place to stay! From the very moment we arrived everything was so pleasant that we were really impressed. We arrived early, but were greeted with friendliness and were taken to our room immediately. The room was comfortable and the cleanest I'd ever seen (even compared with Hyatt's and other high end places we'd stayed at before). We stayed in the Black Bart, where there was a wonderful gas fireplace and comfortable bed. Kithenette with coffee maker, microwave, sink and refridgerator was really nice. Wine and cheese time was pleasant. View out the window was really nice. Breakfasts delivered to the room were truly delicious and unique. Being INCLUDED in the price was really amazing. I'm not used to actually getting something for the money I've spent :) The location was very convenient with the Lake, Stateline, Heavenly, Gondola, shopping, theater all being within a few minutes driving distance without compromising peace & quiet. But above all these things I was most impressed by the owner's attention to detail. Their willingness to see that everything was good for us personally made our stay especially comfortable. Jerry & Kevin went out of their way to take care of a tiny issue that came up with the internet. We'd never been treated so well by any hotel/lodging staff before. Just to be complete, the only tiny things that I can think of that might deserve mentioning in the negative would be that I was surprise to not have a bath tub, there's only a shower...a very nice, large shower, but a tub would have been nice. Plus the way the cabins are built, you can hear/feel the neighbor in the next unit moving around through the vibration in the floor. But I really consider these small sacrifices considering all the other great things about the place.
