Hotel Astoria Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro

Dear all, I recently stayed at this hotel. At first I thought it was great (good price, nice desk folks who speak English, good location, etc). It was all great until I got the bill. It was $200 for several nights (as expected), but $120 for a laundry bill that should have been about $10.00. No kidding - they charge 10 x the going rate for laundry. They hide the cost of this and don't put the charge on the returned clothes so I actually did laundry twice at this hotel. They ended up taking off 30% of the laundry charge but I had to pay the rest. I did laundry several times in Brazil and the same small load (of t-shirts, shorts and underwear) cost $10 at other places. The manager of this hotel knows about this scam; the owner is getting rich off of it!! The room rates are excellent but he makes his money from the laundry bill!!
