Terrible and Disgusting
By Adam, 12/30/09
Several years ago, this hotel was both clean and reasonably priced. Now, it is both disgusting and cheap. Upon checking in (which was quick), we were excited to see our hot tub/fireplace room. It looked nice at first, flipped the fireplace on and started searching for the heat (Monty was unusually chilly that day). We found the heater, a 1 ft by 6" electric thing in the wall, it finally warmed the room by the following morning. Next, we wanted to use the toilet which was incredibly hard to flush, actually had to have the guy at the desk fix it. We went out in town for a bit then came back wanting a shower. The shower, which was in the hot tub (what the?...), had a shower head with no pressure, a water faucet that barely let you get hot water, and a spigot that almost came out of the wall when you pulled the knob to get the shower to work (which you had to hold in place for a minute to get it to work). So, finally, we want to wrap Christmas presents and relax with the TV on, which didn't work! Tried to call the desk with the room phone, who's wire (socket and all) had been ripped from the wall! Desk guy couldn't get the tv fixed so we just listened to music off the internet as the wi-fi provided by the hotel worked well. Last but not least at the end of the day, we were looking forward to going to bed. The comforter was nasty so it went on the floor, but the blanket was absolutely disgusting...it literally had white crusty spots all over it and it went on the floor. We slept in long sweat pants with socks and our parka jackets to keep warm (cause of the wimpy heater). The next morning when we left, I got them to knock $20 off the hotel room and noticed their "continental" breakfast, a plate of cinnamon muffins from Safeway that were cut in half. Needless to say, we won't be retuning to this hotel that we used to like. Spend you $80-100 somewhere else in Monty, there are plenty of much better hotels in town.

Save your money
By Dan The Man, 12/28/09
I give it one star. Only because it''s1 block away from the shopping center and restaurants. carpets are dirty. Using the TV... You must turn volume & on &off from the TV. The remote only changes the channels. Light switch for sink by the front door. bed uncomfortable and thin walls lots of other hotels on this block to choose from and I suggest you do just that.

My first and last time
By California traveler, 12/28/09
The bed was horrible; it sagged and needs to be replaced, lousy pillows and noisy. Walls are paper thin, heard someone cough all night long. Heard the water going through the drains. I go to Monterey at least twice a year and I will never go back here again. One positive thing, it is clean, but thats it.

Never Again!
By Monterey Traveler, 6/23/09
Upon check-in we noticed the toilet coming on every 5 minutes. The manager said he would fix it. He had a whole day. Never did. We had to turn the water off to the toilet to get any sleep. The "remodel" must have been done by themselves. The granite counters and floors looked out of place since the rest of the room was last decorated in 1970! Should have spent the remodel money on new mattresses and linens. The linens on the bed were two top sheets, not a fitted sheet. Once even had a rip about 5 inches long! The ice machines didn't work either. Must happen often because the clerk said they have an agreement with the hotel next door when their ice machines don't work. So we had to walk next door to get ice -- Fun especially at 10 pm! Luckily we got the place for $40 on Friday but we had to pay $98 on Saturday. Next time I'll go with a chain. At least you know what your're getting. We had the "Please clean right away" notice on the handle of the door. No one even in the hotel but us, the maids were cleaning every other room but ours. We actually had to insist they clean ours right away. We had been gone for 2 hours. Unbelievable. And don't let the pictures of the place fool you. This place is very run down! Do not stay at this motel. Keep driving!

Very comfortable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/25/08
We stayed in room 21 with the fireplace. It was very comfortable and the manager was very helpful and fare with us even though it was a holiday weekend with most motels full.

I would not recommend!!
By Julia, 3/13/07
We were extremely disappointed with this property. The only plus is the location. It is located across the street from the Del Monte Shopping Center with easy access to the freeway. The manager's office was dirty and in disarray. The green carpet in the hallways is dirty and worn. The room is quite small and had a pungent mildew odor. The toilets make an explosive noise each time they are flushed and the walls are paper thin where you can easily hear your neighbor's conversation and other activity! The bed was uncomfortable hard and lumpy. The linens are the equivalent of rags with the towels being torn and thin. The pillows were also worn and flat. We were only able to view two channels on the television all other channels came in snowy and the television made an occasional popping sound. When we reported the issue with the television, we were told that it would be replaced, but no one ever came to the room. The furniture was in poor condition. For example the shade on the lamp was torn and parts of the desk were unpainted. The room had a lovely fireplace but a thermostat was not included, so it was impossible to control the room temperature. This was not a good value and all in all, I could not recommend this property. They are better and more affordable places to stay in Monterrey.

Worst Place I've ever stayed
By Cristie, 10/17/06
I do a lot of traveling and this motel is by far the worst place I have ever stayed. The room was small, the carpet was sticky (so disgusting), and there was no thermostat to control the room temperature. There was a fireplace, which was nice, but made the room feel like an oven quickly. The bed was uncomfortably hard and the pillows were pretty much non existant. I will NEVER stay here again and I would not recommend this motel to anyone. The pool was closed, and the online pictures of the motel are unbelievably deceptive. I hope this review helps anyone who is researching a place to stay in Monterey. I honestly wish I would have researched better and not thrown my money away, as this was supposed to be a romantic getaway for our 1yr wedding anniversary. There are many other hotels and motels to chose from that are much nicer and better priced.
