Hotel Pemaquid, New Harbor

The location is perfect. Nice walk to the ocean. Restaurant nearby with giftshop. We have been several times and can't wait to go back in Aug. 05.

No phone service, no tv guide, on a rainy night...it's a long walk to the office or ice machine. Bathroom didn't feel clean (damp towel, unflushed toilet) and the faucet handles have to be held in order to run the water...hard to wash your hands that way! Linens and carpet were low quality synthetics. Price wasn't bad...and access to the lighthouse at night was very convenient. But there is a nicer inn nearby...which we didn't know about until after our trip.

I have been coming to this hotel each year for several years and recommend it to anyone I speak with looking for a good Maine experience. Lovely hotel with only a few rooms but the surrounding cottages are quite nice, some more updated than others. I've found the owners and management to be helpful in recommending the area attractions and dining. Very convenient coffee shop-type restaurant next door right on the water. Nearby "Shaw's Lobster Shack" (featured in 'Message in a Bottle' movie) and other locations used in movie.

The only thing I disliked about the place was the limited wi-fi; you could get service, but the signal was weak. What I liked about the place: everything--from coffee (bring your own food) on the front porch in the morning, the location convenient to the lighthouse and a walk along the coast road, a restaurant close by, rooms clean and period-appointed, good service and helpful staff, cool and pleasant afternoons on the front porch (bring your own wine and newspapers), quiet evenings in the parlor (if the night is cool, get them to light the fireplace) surrounded by quiet music and nostalgia. One woman came to sit by us on the front porch, declaring herself to be bored out of her mind. We were politely sympathetic--there is nothing much to do. But, then, that's why we'v gone there every June for the past half dozen years: to sit back, relax, and just let the world pass by. Staying at Hotel Pemaquid is always the highlight of our annual Maine vacation.

This hotel although it reeked with age it was very disatisfying it was a confusing and aesthetically unappealing mixture of motel and hotel .The hotel had some charm but the motel is illplaced and might just as well have been built along the new jersey turnpike.This hotel motel lacks characteristic Maine charm and taste.
