A nightmare from the Bate's (motel/Campground)
By Dasha, 11/11/09
B & B campground in liberal, KS looks like a nightmare and no one is around to even take money. I would like to know how long along Wheeler's approved this campground?

Sour Grapes?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/09
How sad. The Wheelers are not only soliciting reviews, now it looks like they are asking the reviewers to make personal attacks on individuals that are no longer at the campground. Sour grapes? You bet. When you get treated like trash you have the right to be upset. As with most common playground bullies Marc Wheeler likes to pick on someone that is not likely to stand up for himself. The big problem here is that Marc Wheeler owns the playground. If you stand up to him his response is to tell you to leave. That is what happened to me back in September of 2009. After watching the Wheelers pick on my Niece and her family for four years I got tired of it and confronted Mr. Wheeler. He responded in the usual way. He told me that the campground will be closing on Oct. 12 and I had to be out by then. I told him that there would be three others following me (my niece, my sister and my daughter). His reply was “good”. That’s how much the Wheelers care about the people that were loyal customers and helped them keep the business going. Four trailers left the campground later that month and Marc Wheeler never said a word to any of us. I cannot understand how anyone still there can say that the Wheelers are friendly and fair. My nieces husband had been warned to stay away from Marc Wheeler and may have been out of line by trying to take more wood than he was entitled to, but when he offered to pay for the extra wood with a debit card Marc wheeler refused, saying that he would be charged 50 cents for processing a card. Mr. Wheeler continued to humiliate my nieces husband in front of other customers and some of the Wheelers friends by saying that now he was going to have to charge the rest of us more for wood to make up for what my nieces husband was taking! Even after my niece and her family left the campground, the Wheelers continued to accuse them of things they did not do. They confronted my sister and asked her why my nieces husband would write such a terrible review on this board. They thought it was him that wrote the “Seasoned Traveler” review. It was not, and my sister had to tell them who really wrote the review. I am sure that Marc Wheeler will accuse me of trying to ruin his business. He wrongly accused me of that the first year I was there over someone else’s barking dogs. But if anyone is going to ruin the Wheelers campground business, it will be Marc Wheeler. My Version of "Up North"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/07/09
No, there's no swimming pool, just a winding creek and a tranquil pond for catch and release fishing and a place for the kids to catch frogs. There is no large arcade or exciting nightly entertainment, just a few games in an historic old barn which smells like campfire wood and the almost every night showing of the stars in the sky. Wheeler's is my "Up North" place. Our family has camped here almost every weekend from April 15th thru October 12th for the last Eleven Years. We raised our son here and now he has his own seasonal camper at Wheeler's for his family. I believe my expectations have been fulfilled when it comes to a Wheeler's camping experience. I look for safety, cleanliness, a stress-free environment and respect for the campground rules. I am not here to party till I puke... although it's been done. I am not here to be a social butterfly, but I do say Good Morning and Hi and ask how the family is doing. And everyone here is genuinely friendly. Wheeler's central location is great as it is easy to get to Devil's Lake or up to the Dells. After a day of playing tourist or just shopping and running errands, you can be assured of returning to your campsite and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It's been a privilege knowing Lollie and Marc, the owners. Their concern about our environment shows in the excellent ratings they are receiving with Travel Green Wisconsin. This is not so much their business as it is their way of life. One Word Of Caution: Beware of Negative Feedback you may read regarding Wheeler's Campground. There will always be a few people who have some sour grapes in their mouth (these people might not be drinking the correct wine) (no wonder they are not signing their reviews!) so don't let them stop you from having a wonderful camping experience. A little slice of Heaven
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/04/09
11 years ago we put our trailers on sites at Wheelers Campground, (ours and 3 other family members) and it's been a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! The sites are SPACIOUS & INVITING. The grounds- beautifully MOWED, TRIMMED and LITTER FREE. The bath house is CLEAN and well kept daily and the showers are always HOT. The owners are more than just EFFICIENT. They're FRIENDLY and FAIR and go out of their way to make each camping experience a good memory. When the creek overflowed it's banks, the owners went over and beyond to help the seasonals and other campers with their trailers and possesions in peril, in spite of the fact that their own house was flooded. This kind of SELFLESSNESS goes along way with our family. The owners have rules to follow, and we expect that. We used to camp at Devils Lake State Park and the rules were the same, if not more stringent. The owners dilligence keeps "our summer place" PROTECTED and SAFE. The fact that the owners live on the property is a plus for us because during the camping season, kids, pets and adults can feel safe at all hours, day or night and during the winter our trailers are checked and protected. It's a comfort to us that the Wheelers have daily rounds, which lets us know that they're on top of problems, such as loose running pets, dogs barking (all day long) and loud music after 11:00PM. Even the State Park didn't let that go on. YES, we love it at WHEELERS, we love our seasonal neighbors, and we love those campers, joining us for a couple of nights, on this little slice of Heaven we found Baraboo, Wisconsin - WHEELERS CAMPGROUND. Previous Review
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/03/09
must have been written by one of the owners in response to the previous one. It was a nice campground at one time but last winter the "fishing pond" froze to the bottom killing the fish and is pretty much dead. The owners gutted the "gameroom" and it now only has a couple of games and a pool table. As for the owners being friendly, nothing could be further from the truth. They run the campground with threats and intimidation. Some of the weekend campers that did not follow the rules deserved to be kicked out, but if you decided to become a seasonal you were threatened with eviction before you ever did anything wrong. One of the owners liked to solicit people to write favorable reviews on this board to counter all the bad ones, so I think this last one was either was written by a friend or by one of the Wheelers.

Seasoned Pro
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/08/09
I have been staying in a seasonal site at Wheelers for three years now. I got stuck here due to the father-in-law being there and my wife wanted to be near him. Let me say that the owners do not care about the people who stay there. They are only in it for the money. The kids are afraid to go away from the camper or they will get yelled at by the owner. The fishing is a joke, it has flooded 3 times and we lost a trailer in the last one. Go anyplace else but here. We are finally going. Apparently things were said this weekend by Marc the owner that finally got the rest of the family wanting to go too.

Stay anywhere else
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/09
My parent like to camp and try to stay some what local with them getting up in years. They had an issue with their tv converter box and asked if I could make the short trip over to help them out. Being a good son, I jumped on my motorcycle and road the 15 miles to help. I knew where my parents were I could see them as I drove in (300 feet from the entrance). I rode in, got off my bike and went to work on the tv. 38 seconds later the owner drove to their camp sight wanting me to pay the guest fee for the five minutes I was going to be there and remove my motorcycle. I listens to his rant for 10 minutes and as he drove (the 300 feet) back to his house in a rant. This is not a true picture of what Wisconsin has to offer. Make the short trip up the road to a true camp site. The $84 my parents spend for the two night could have given them a much better option.

Worst campground ever.
By LAURIE, 07/25/09
We get about two weeks of vacation a year. Don't blow them at Wheeler. The owner gets so mad at his guests, it is scary. The guy really has a problem with people. Stay in your RV with the lights out and completely quiet if you do stay. Rename the place: Wisconsin Chainsaw.
