Well, we didn't even make it to the campground. I have grown up camping and my husband and I camp very often with our 3 young children and my family. We also belong to a camping club. I was told by the club (which is mainly older people...pretty low key) to not even bother checking this place out...but I did anyway. When I was asked if we had any pets, I said yes, my sister has a very sweet German Shepard that would join us. SHE and her family were turned down, but the 'gentleman' I spoke with really tried to get my family to still come. He didn't get it that my sisters family and my family were camping together...hello! I appreciate rules, please don't get me wrong. But I quote "due to insurance and public perception we will not allow a german shepard"...when I questioned insurance, he backed down and said "well, public perception, and that you can't change". Very odd... We won't camp, or try to get our club (so like 14-20 units per outing) to camp here...ever! Best of luck, sir!
If you want a quiet, clean family camping trip...this is your place. There are rules in place which made me feel safe and secure. I appreciated the fact that there were no loud partiers on our getaway. My boys had a great time fishing (caught over 30 little blues in a matter of 2 hours off the fishing pier), catching frogs and swimming in the lake. The owners were very friendly and kept the grounds very clean. Costs a quarter for 10 minute shower. Water was hot and I appreciated the heated, indoor comfort station. Very cool little hiking area, even some short mountain bike hills. Sites a little closer than I'd like but all in all, we had a great time. Can't wait to visit again.
We were in town for the annual geocachers Cache Bash. We chose this property because it had some of the best reviews and was closest to the location of the event that we were attending. The rules are terribly strict and evidentally don't apply to everyone. Several people had 2 cars to a site when we were told that we could not park our 2nd vehicle onsite. We were even told how to park the one vehicle that could remain on our site. When I called to reserve we were told we wouldn't have to pay for all 4 children to stay, but when I reserved the site, I had to pay. $68/night is ridiculous for something that hasn't been updated since 1970. The pay shower was horrible - the water smelled like rotten eggs. We will be in town again, but will never stay at this campground. The only thing it has going for it was the location and it was maintained fairly well. Update the facilities if you're going to charge a premium to camp at your facility and don't be so crazy about the rules. You have to sign a piece of paper saying you understand and have read the rules. The owners seem to be control-freaks. After getting home and taking two of the children to the doctor for an illness that was caught while in the campground, we found that the smell from the hot water in the showers was actually from bacteria in the water.
My parents stay here from time to time and this time was the worst for them and us for visiting. The sites are not level and had to use several blocks to level off and so it was difficult to get into or out of the motorhome because there was a 2 1/2 foot distance from the last step of the motorhome to the ground and you practically fall every time. We used to be able to drive to the campsite to visit now you have to park in their lower parking area and walk all the way in or have the guest come and get you. Yeah we had 3 kids and 3 adults one with disabilities so that was a let down. And most of all...... We were unaware of the visiting hours being so short 7:30 now. We arrived at 5:45 to swim and have dinner so we rushed our swimming and our father left to get dinner and we lost track of time and at 7:40 some guy in a van pulled up and told us we had to leave. So we rushed to get things put away when we got home my husband couldn't find his wallet from all the rushing and throwing things together to get out of there it was misplaced. It just is rude to tell us to get out, they could have said well finish your dinner and go. We weren't loud or anything. My mom is sick and lives far away and all we wanted was to spend quality time with them because we don't know what the future will bring and we feel violated in a way because of all this. WE LOST PRECIOUS TIME. Yeah ok the beach is nice but they charge you a ton just to use any flotation devices, paddle boats, row boats etc. You can not bring in your own floaties or anything. So be prepared to spend a lot there if you have kids that like to play on water toys. I live in West Bend and I have heard rumors that they were going to sell, I wish they would because they are very inconsiderate and have no empathy for anyone, all they want is your MONEY $$$$$$
Likes: Quiet, clean
Dislikes: Strict management, not friendly, too rigid, in your face style discouraged me from ever going back. this attitude affected the campers who generally also were unfriendly. Very poor atmosphere. Also pretty pricey.
I was a regular there for years, never had any problems, stayed quiet. I booked a weekend for 2 adults and my son. My friend decided at the last minute to not go, but visited Saturday. I lost track of time, and my friend was still there at 7:15, supposed to be gone at 7. The jackass of an owner called me and did not let me get a word in edgewise. He proceeded to tell me how I'm taking advantage of him, I could get kicked out for this, and on and on. I have never been treated so horrible by anyone, for such a trivial reason. I tried explaining that I lost track of time and that my friend would be leaving immediately, but the owner just kept going on trying to make me feel as shitty as possible. It was sad, when I've been such a good, loyal customer of his, for him to turn on me in such an extreme way. It's the only time I ever had a visitor. I will never go back.
Love the clean family getaway! Quiet, peaceful, no loud crazy parties or barking dogs. Love the beach and people. I have a 5 year old and as a single mom, I couldn't thank the owners enough for the rules! If you are looking for a peaceful family campground this is the place!!
When we read the reviews online, we were a little worried. The swimming area is awesome and our site (E) was very quiet and nice. The rules are strict but the owners are just looking out for everyone. We'll go back with our grandchildren in the future. My husband rents the RV site by the month. The owners recommended an RV repairman for some plumbing work and he did a great job. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
When we first went to this campground we may have been like a few that found the rules a bit strict but after consideration and realizing why the rules are inforced we visit this campground on a yearly basis. Our children are teen and preteen and still enjoy the atmosphere. We are happy campers as it is said and will continue to visit the area as it is close to home and friendly. The restrooms and showers are clean, the beach is clean, waters very clean and make your skin and hair in a wonderful condition, it was a a glacier formed lake after all, fresh water and healthy fish and vocal frogs! :) As long as you keep you celebrations to your campsite and thats what most seasoned campers do, it is a wonderful place to visit! Hope to meet you there!
We had the best time at Lenwood! The lake and grounds are extremely clean and the management was extremely friendly and wanted to make sure we had a great camping experience. Although there are quite a few rules, they were evenly enforced and made us feel safe while on the property. It was nice to go to a place that didn't put up with inconsiderate people. We will definitely be coming back next summer!!!
