Salty Acres Campground, Kennebunkport

We tried to have a pleasant 3 day weekend camping trip in Kennebunkport. But, unfortunately we made the mistake of choosing to camp at Salty Acres. The worst part of this campground were the disgusting bathrooms. It seemed as though they were never cleaned all weekend, even though the staff claimed they should have been. The trash was oveflowing, and caked on dirt and toilet paper covered the floors of the tiny bathrooms. The toilets reaked of urine. The showers were disgusting. Mud and muck covered the mats on the floor, and the shower curtains were covered in mildew. It looked like it hadn't been replaced in years. The sinks were also disgusting. They were located outside, and dishwashing ocurred in the same sinks used for daily teethbrushing and grooming. No hand soap was supplied by the sinks. The trash dumpsters were also overflowing. The campsites were also close together, and the quiet time after 10 p.m was not enforced. It also appeared as if the staff did not do their jobs, because the light was out in the women's shower the whole weekend. For the $40 per night price we paid, we would have expected a lot better of this campground, since it's a private and family owned business. We've seen much better in state run campgrounds. Others should be forewarned and not come to Salty Acres. It is better off looking for either state run campgrounds, and AAA approved campgrounds. Salty Acres is not recommended.

Wow, we couldn't disagree more! It sounds like some of these people have something personal against the owners. Hopefully, people reading these reviews can see through it and it won't end up hurting their business. It is a business, and businesses have rules for a reason. Anyway, we've been coming here for several years. August of 2009 was the first time we stayed in a pull-through site at the front. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay: from how safe we felt with the new security gate to how friendly the staff and other campers were. **This family campground is a treasure in the trees!** We recommend Salty Acres to anyone camping in a basic tent or needing hookups, and anyone looking for that old school camping experience. They've made some noticeable changes in the past few years, but we think it's for the good of the campground and the campers in general. Two thumbs up to the family running this campground! We can't wait to go again, and again, and again!

I agree with the other negative comments. The staff/management lacks social skills. The campground itself is not kept up, bathrooms/showers filthy, dumpsters spilling over with garbage for days, weeds and pot holes everywhere. Lots of skunks! Location is the only positive-close to the beach-no competition lets them do whatever they want.

Tricia is the rudest and most unfair person I have ever met. I agree she has turned what use to be a great family campground into a concentration camp. To say she is a control freak would be an understatement. This woman has absolutely no people skills and not a kind or caring bone in her body! We have been to many other campgrounds where we have been treated like a guest. Tricia could use some serious lessons in good management skills not to mention how to treat the customer. In Tricias life it's her way or the highway!!! If I were you I would choose to take the highway. Trust me there are many wonderful campgrounds that are kept a whole lot nicer than this one. These grounds leave a lot to be desired Tricia is running this campground down and it's a shame that the family does not recognize this.
